Lara tried not to cry as she held her husband's cold, unmoving hand.
"I am so sorry, Curtis. I...I didn't mean to...I only wanted the corn dogs. And I...if I had known something like this would happen, I wouldn't have made you stop for those damned corn dogs. I am so sorry, my love," she whispered.
Tears stung the back of her eyes, and she rapidly blinked them away. Curtis would not want her to cry for any reason, and even though he was the current cause of her tears, she was still trying not to cry.
A part of her wished that his hand would at least move, squeeze hers back. She also wanted him to open his eyes, smile at her and tell her that he was okay.
But his body had betrayed him, and all he could do was lay there, unconscious and unaware of his environment.
"I miss you so much. Please fight back and come back to me, my love. I love you," she said.
Her phone buzzed in her pocket.
Lara sighed as she brought it out, and it was a text message from Laura.
