Lara scoffed as she stood up. She faced Laura and held the woman's gaze.
"And why should I believe you?" she asked her husband's sister.
Laura folded her arms on her chest as she spoke.
"I know we didn't exactly get off on the right foot. And I am so sorry about that. But believe me or not, I was actually looking out for my brother. Nobody knew who you were. We've never seen you with him before. You are not popular enough to be on the internet or something, and all of a sudden he brought you home. You were married, and pregnant. We were... worried. But I'll admit that my parents took things far. I had nothing to do with their actions," she explained.
Her words made sense to Lara. It was a logical explanation, and truth be told, Laura didn't exactly do anything except listen to her mother's command.
Still, Lara looked to the side to hold Lazarus gaze. The bodyguard said nothing, and his expression didn't show what he was thinking.
