Chapter 129 - Chapter 129: Ride

Wayne Group's Marvel office.

The hum of the air conditioner mixed with the whirring of computer fans, accompanied by heavy breathing, echoed in the silent space.

After several days of hard work, Peter and Ethan, like two puddles of melted ice cream, collapsed onto the soft leather sofa, limbs casually sprawled, faces etched with exhaustion.

Peter's head rested crookedly on the armrest, eyes half-closed, the Spider-Man suit under his shirt already soaked with sweat.

Ethan lay on his back, his tie hanging askew around his neck, looking completely spaced out.

"Here, take a break and drink some hot milk." Gwen walked in from outside, carrying two steaming cups of milk, and gently placed them on the table.

Peter struggled to sit up, and as he took the milk, he couldn't help but complain resentfully, "Boss, this stock acquisition work isn't meant for humans. I feel like my fingers are going to spark on the keyboard."

Gwen blinked her lively eyes, a gentle smile playing on her lips, and teased, "Is that so? Then how about I wear a maid outfit and serve you two milk?"

Peter's face instantly flushed crimson, as if scalded by the milk's heat. He waved his hands frantically, stammering, "No… no need! This is fine now!"

It was a joke. The red-haired, green-eyed girl truly matched Peter's aesthetic, but he subconsciously felt that the person in front of him had no interest in him whatsoever.

Seeing Peter's flustered reaction, Gwen sighed helplessly, putting on a sorrowful expression, "Don't think I'm slacking off, okay? I'm working very hard too!"

Peter scratched his head, a lingering blush on his face.

However, when he saw Gwen's current state, he still asked curiously, "But we're both exhausted here. How are you still so energetic?"

Gwen's expression remained sorrowful, and her tone even carried a hint of grievance, "Although I look relaxed, I haven't slacked off at all. I've been working diligently."

As she spoke, she pointed towards her office.

Peter stood up, half-believing, and dragged his tired feet to Gwen's office.

Peter looked at the transaction data and batches, and was somewhat surprised to find that not only was it comparable to his own, but it was even slightly better.

Feeling Peter's confused and surprised gaze, Gwen, standing at the door of her office, smiled and turned her face away.

"Ah ~ why hasn't Dr. Paradox returned yet."

Three days ago, in Gwen's office.

"So you mean this is another World, and you want me to help you complete your work?" Arcana asked coldly, her voice like ice shards, her eyes full of doubt.

Those who knew knew it was Arcana who had arrived; those who didn't might have thought Brucey had been abducted.

Facing Arcana's cold inquiry, Gwen immediately leaned close to Arcana, blinking her big eyes pitifully, her eyelashes fluttering, "Please, Xiao Qian, Boss still has other things to do! You're the most capable, only you can help me solve these problems."

She clasped her hands together and shook Arcana's arm, her voice as soft as melted marshmallow.

Arcana sighed expressionlessly, the veins in her neck throbbing slightly, as if trying to control her emotions.

She reached out and forcefully pushed the box next to her towards Gwen, the metal box colliding with the desktop with a crisp sound: "Here, what you asked for."

Gwen's eyes instantly lit up as she took the new box of gold.

Thanks to the great Gotham stage, thanks to dear Mr. Falcone and Mr. Maroni.

May the lilac hourglass bless you!

This sudden intimate gesture made Arcana's body stiffen, a faint blush creeping up her earlobes, but as if she remembered something, she sighed helplessly again and turned her face away.

Years ago, Arcana did develop some strange feelings for a certain person due to their constant proximity.

But later, when she discovered that the other person's intimate appellations were not based on familiarity, but on the appearance value of the person being addressed, Arcana sobered up.

This person belongs to the Sea Emperor!

In high school, a cheerleading Captain, jealous of Gwen, who, despite her young age, attracted everyone's attention, played a prank on her.

The result, however, was self-inflicted, as she slipped down the stairs.

It was supposed to be a standard plot where the villain pays the price for her actions, but then Arcana saw her Boss rush down the stairs in an instant when the cheerleading Captain was about to fall.

She steadily caught the other person in a princess carry, and affectionately put her arm around the other person's shoulder. Gwen asked with a gentle smile, "Are you okay, dear? Did you hurt yourself when you fell?"

Eight years ago, Arcana would have thought this was Gwen being kind-hearted.

Now, when Arcana saw this scene, she only felt that the other person was once again lusting after beauty.

Arcana gently raised the sniper rifle's scope and saw another girl on the stairs with a rather displeased expression.

That girl looked exactly like her, except she wasn't as White as herself, since she didn't sunbathe for long periods.

But her expression was much colder than her own.

Her idiotic Boss always thought that Ms. Brucey had discovered some problem, which was why she had become distant.

But to Arcana, it was clearly someone flirting and making others angry.

How delightful—no, how worrying.

Arcana said no more, neatly pulled out a chair, sat down, and typed rapidly on the keyboard.

Seeing this, Gwen quickly scurried to the pantry and soon returned with a glass of iced cola.

After putting down the cola, she went behind Arcana, placed her hands on her shoulders, and began to massage her with a smile.

After Gwen massaged for a while, Arcana silently turned to look at Gwen and said expressionlessly, "No need, go do your own thing."

"Alrighty!"

Gwen turned around with a grin, used a spell to shrink the suitcase, and walked out.

She was going to find the old man to exchange money… Time returned to the present.

After a short break, Ethan sat back down in front of the computer. He rubbed his aching temples, his fingertips rapidly tapping on the keyboard.

On the screen, Stark International's stock curve plummeted like a cliff, with the latest data showing a sharp drop of 58 points.

Ethan stared at the fluctuating numbers, his brows relaxed, and he nodded slightly, "The decline is starting to narrow. This fluctuation was quite severe."

Gwen leaned over to the screen, her gaze sweeping over the data, a confident arc forming on her lips, "Now we can let loose. There's no need for piecemeal acquisitions anymore. Once the stock price bottoms out, we'll buy in large quantities."

Just as Ethan was about to respond, a sharp whooshing sound suddenly pierced the office's silence, cutting through the stagnant air like a sharp blade.

The three people present all stiffened simultaneously, turning their heads in unison towards the window.

A Shadow, carrying a strong gust of wind, flashed past the window, moving so fast that it only left a blurry afterimage and a fleeting jet exhaust flame.

Gwen lunged towards the window, her cheek pressed tightly against the cold glass, her gaze fixed on the direction where the Shadow had disappeared.

But the other party's speed was simply too fast; now, she could only vaguely see four plumes of exhaust flames spraying.

Gwen briefly recalled the plot of Iron Man and immediately realized what it was.

"I need to go out!"

Looking at Gwen, who was suddenly excited and about to leave, Peter was a little confused, "Now? To do what?"

"To go for a ride!" Gwen smiled brightly, and without waiting for the two to react, she reached out and firmly pressed the dial that had appeared on her wrist at some point.

With a flash of purple light, Gwen had transformed.

"Jetray!"
