Chapter 50 - Necklace

As if I was emerging from underwater, the sound got clearer. The light rustle of the trees and distant sound of water came pouring into my head. Then I heard Uchel speak.

"Why did you want to speak with me?"

I was tense in surprise but continued to focus on the sound.

"Do I need a reason to talk with my grandson?" Grandmother Vers asked.

"Since I've only known of your existence for a few months, yes." Uchel said. "I have no doubt of your current sincerity, but I am having a hard time understanding your past indifference."

"You have a sharp tongue," Tris interjected. "You should be more respectful," he growled.

"No, he's not wrong." Grandmother said. "Most people would be suspicious, especially after what we have told him."

"Mother," he tried to plead with her but she just waved him off.

"You are right, there was something that I wanted to give you now that you are here."

At that, she gestured to a guard who brought a small wooden box to her.
