And the champions were scrambling.
1. Fleur & Camille — Beauxbatons' Swift Progress
Fleur Delacour solved her golden egg puzzle almost instantly.
Of course she did.
Roy had sat with her by the Black Lake, tilted the egg, and whispered:
"Listen underwater."
Fleur:"…That is all?"
Roy smiled:"That is the key."
Fleur solved it in 20 minutes.
Camille was slower, but with Fleur's guidance she cracked the message within the same day.
Madam Maxime bragged to Dumbledore for two hours.
2. Viktor & Ivan — Durmstrang's Pride
Krum solved it shortly after.
Ivan Dragovich pretended he didn't need help, went underwater in the frozen Durmstrang bathhouse, almost drowned, and then loudly declared:
"I did it! See, no help needed!"
Karkaroff pretended to believe him.
3. Ron Weasley — The Unsurprising Struggle
Ron had… problems.
Big problems.
He couldn't decode the egg at all.He screamed when it opened.He threw it at a wall.He begged Fred & George to solve it for him.
They refused.
Ron, in desperation, went to Harry.
4. Harry Potter — Also Struggling… But Trying
Harry also failed at first.
He tried listening on the Quidditch pitch, the dormitory, and even inside Hagrid's hut.
No success.
Then Roy found him near the lake.
Roy:"Harry… the egg isn't meant to be heard in the air."
Harry blinked.Roy leaned closer.
"It must be heard underwater. Tell Ronald the same."
Harry nodded gratefully.
5. Neville Longbottom — The Unexpected Hero
Harry still took one full week to understand the riddle.
Neville caught him looking defeated near the lake.
Neville:"Harry… mermaids. Merfolk. They live underwater. Maybe that's why the clue changes?"
Harry froze.
The brain cells finally connected.
"NEVILLE YOU GENIUS!"
And Harry finally solved the riddle.
6. Ron Solves It… in the Most Ron Way Possible
Ron never asked Harry directly.
Instead…
He hid behind a pillar.
He listened when Neville explained things to Harry.
He gasped audibly when Harry shouted "MERPEOPLE!"
Neville:"…Was that Ron?"
Harry:"Yes."
Ron fled immediately and declared to everyone:
"I solved the mystery! Alone!"
No one believed him.
Hermione rolled her eyes.Fred & George laughed until they choked.Fleur actually facepalmed.

Hogwarts prayed Ron didn't embarrass them again
Professors prayed to every deity they knew
Meanwhile Roy was casually:
attending classes
practicing magic
