Jessica's POV
"Don't call me cute," Caleb murmured against my chest, his head resting there like he belonged nowhere else in the world.
I ran my fingers through his dark hair, marveling at how soft it felt between my fingertips. When I moved to stroke behind his ears, I felt him shiver beneath my touch. His body responded in ways he couldn't control, and I found that vulnerability utterly captivating.
The way he reacted to my gentle caresses told me everything about how deeply this connection ran between us. Every nerve ending seemed alive, every breath synchronized with mine.
"Of course," I whispered with a smile in my voice. "The mighty Caleb would never be caught being anything as harmless as cute."
He went quiet, just breathing against my skin. I thought maybe he'd drifted off to sleep when his voice came again, softer this time, almost hesitant.
"Do you feel it, Jessica?"
My hand stilled in his hair. "Feel what?"
"The bond between us."
