"A …year" Hiruko asked, his face wide with disbelief at what he just heard.
"Yes, the process takes a year and a half and needs an environment with condensed natural energy to sustain you during the transformation process." Her many eyes narrowed slightly as she studied him, gauging his reaction—his resolve.
Hiruko felt his chest tighten. "Away from my family and friends, who may even think I'm dead." Hiruko mumbled as images flooded his mind—all the people he cared about thinking he was gone, unsure what happened to him.
Could he willingly put them through that pain simply on the probability Mito had some way to know his life status?
'And the plot…it's already derailed. Who's to say they won't all die by the time I return?' Hriuko couldn't help but think, his thoughts spiraling as he considered everything that could go wrong in his absence.
'And the armament Haki Mission is still going on.' Hikaru thought grimly.
Family and armament Haki on one side and an unknown power on the other.
'No.' Hiruko clenched his fist. Who was he kidding? Forget the power-ups; he couldn't willingly hurt his family.
"I-I can—" Hiruko started but was interrupted by Shiori, who saw Hiruko's face and was scared he would back out.
"Wait, Inheritor, I can travel back and forth to the shinobi world and deliver messages, and…and people can visit, so please don't back out." Shiori whined as she jumped on Hiruko, wrapping her small legs around his ankle.
Hearing this, Hiruko breathed a sigh of release; at least he could let them know he was alive, though he still wasn't as convinced a year and a half was a long time to be away, and he couldn't help but still worry about the plot changing.
'What's the point of being there if you're too weak to do anything?' The thought welled up in Hiruko's mind as the memories from the battle flooded back as he remembered his weakness.
His eyes glanced at a blue luminescent screen in front of him and the two rewards waiting for him. His hand rising threatened to press the install button, but he stopped himself as the thoughts of his mother rang in his head.
"Be patient, and increase your knowledge and proficiency in what you have," she said.
'No, I need to be patient and focus on what this world has to offer and how I can use my knowledge to catapult it to a whole new level.' Hikaru thought, pulling his hand away from the system. As he looked at Shiori's crying figure, smiling, he bent down, rubbing her head slightly.
"Let's do this!" Hiruko said resolutely as he glanced at Jorogumo, his eyes conveying resolution and readiness.
Jorogumo, seeing this, smiled and tapped her front-right leg on the stone ground twice, causing two massive thuds to echo across the cave. Soon the sound of several smaller legs tapping across the floor in rhythm sounded.
Eventually a group of six spiders, each with different colors and patterns, all hunched up carrying a big scroll on their backs, easily triple the size of Hiruko, the one leading the pack, was a black spider around Hiruko's height, with orange stripes going down the back of her abdomen and six blood-red eyes. To Hiruko it greatly resembles a tarantula.
"This is the scroll of Shinkai; you will sign your name, officially marking you as this generation's attempt at succession. If you pass, you will be able to summon any spider of Shinkai, including me, though your chakra is far from enough." Jorogumo Mused before continuing,
"This is Kyodaigumo; she will be your servant during your stay, and if you pass, she will be the one to mainly answer your call, as she is one of our strongest combatants." Jorogumo said, motioning to the tarantula leading the group.
'Well, I guess that proves it.' Hikaru thought, remembering the name as it was Kidomaru's personal summon.
Kyodaigumo, seeing Hikaru's eyes on her and her queen passing the conversation to her, introduced herself. "Hello, Inheritor, I am Kyodaigumo here to serve you," she said, her head bowed slightly in respect.
Hiruko, seeing this and unsure how to react, simply used the etiquette taught to him by Mito and bowed before introducing himself. "Hello, Kyodaigumo, my name is Hiruko. It's a pleasure to meet you." Hiruko said, a small smile on his face.
Kyodaigumo simply nodded in acknowledgement at his introduction as the spiders behind her meanwhile unfurled the scroll.
Once finished, Jorogumo turned to him, her front leg extended as she motioned toward the scroll.
"Draw your blood and sign your name." She said simply, Hikaru however, didn't mind the queen's bluntness as he simply nodded in return, biting his left thumb as he walked slowly across the cold, hard stone ground toward the scroll.
Reaching the scroll Hiruko knelt; his gaze couldn't help but be drawn to the names on the scroll.

"We don't have all day." "Jorogumo," he said, pulling Hiruko out of his stupor.
"Oh, sorry." Hiruko said, quickly signing his name before standing back up to face the queen, who had an irritated look on her face, though with the arachnid features, Hiruko couldn't really say.
Sighing at Hiruko Jorogumo turned to Kyodaigumo, who stood beside her.
"Kyodaigumo, lead this boy to the room he'll be staying in and have the younglings go scavenging for food; they need the practice. I and Shiori need to discuss the procedure." Jorogumo explained as Kyodaigumo bowed slightly in response before turning to the group she came with.
"Tik clikk clittkk" She made several sounds Hiruko couldn't begin to understand before walking away as the spiders turned and scurried away.
"Let's go, Inheritor," Kyodaigumo said simply to Hiruko before also scurrying off in the opposite direction of the spiders into one of the pitch-black caves.
Gulping at the sight of the cramped dark caves, Hiruko steadied his breathing before reluctantly following after one quick glance and forced smile at Shiori and Jorogumo.
After he disappeared, Shiori looked up at her mother, worry in her eyes.
Jorōgumo spoke softly, "While we were talking, I had the spiders expand and light his room. He won't feel cramped."
Shiori smiled, though confusion flickered. 'But the spiders wouldn't have had enough—' Shiori thought, but realization dawned on her.
'She planned this from the start,' Shiori realized.
"So you always intended to give him a chance…" she murmured.
Jorōgumo didn't answer, but the silence was telling.
