Blue flames had wrapped themselves around Christina's body in the basement. Morwenna, imprisoned inside Christina, was screaming like a ferocious beast. Christina's body was jerking violently in midair like a puppet, as Morwenna was using every ounce of her strength to force her way out. She tried to shatter Christina's bones from within, tearing sounds from her throat that were not human at all, but the wall of Stephnie's shamanic chants and sacred oil held her fast, gripping her like an iron cage.
"Ordinary humans like you cannot destroy me! I am death itself for all of you!" Morwenna's thunderous voice roared out of Christina's mouth, yet every one of her attempts was futile. She could not take even a single step outside the circle of blue fire.
At the same time, Christina herself was being scorched by the flames, suffering unbearable pain and screaming in agony. Her screams were so heartrending that neither Claire nor Lily could endure them.
