Chapter 155: Reanimated Kushina

In the dim storage room.

After Alex activated Impure World Reincarnation, a large amount of paper debris quickly wrapped around the White Zetsu sacrifice. This time, it didn't stall like with the reanimation of Sakumo Hatake.

The White Zetsu opened his mouth wide, issuing a silent, miserable screech. It continued until the paper debris covered the entire head and stopped, transforming into a figure with long red hair.

It was Kushina Uzumaki!

She was dressed in her usual dark green long dress, her skin surface covered in cracks like broken porcelain. Her eyes were closed as she stood quietly.

"Success!" Alex floated up excitedly.

Konan looked at the reanimated Kushina, examining her closely. "Is this Impure World Reincarnation?"

She had heard of this ninjutsu but had never seen it. During Orochimaru's time in the Akatsuki, he had never used it in front of the members.

Konan walked slowly to Kushina, her expression strange. She subconsciously reached out to touch her cheek. It was cold to the touch, with a distinct grainy texture of paper debris.

"The resurrection of Impure World Reincarnation seems to have major defects..."

Whether it was the touch or the appearance, it was basically no different from a corpse. It could summon the soul from the Pure Land and give it a body to live again. Without a doubt, Impure World Reincarnation was a resurrection jutsu. But the resurrection was flawed; she didn't want to use this jutsu to revive Yahiko and Nagato.

Alex floated to Konan's side. "Konan, Edo Tensei is just a semi-resurrection jutsu. To fully revive someone into a normal person with flesh and blood, we need the Rinnegan's Samsara of Heavenly Life Technique."

Konan nodded. "Just wait a little longer. Yahiko, Nagato, wait a little longer. It won't be long before I return you to the living world. The world then will be the peaceful world of your dreams."

Alex looked at the reanimated Kushina, then at her corpse lying to the side. A sudden whim struck him. If he extracted Kushina's soul and injected it into her original body, what would happen? Would she come back to life?

It was very much worth a try.

Acting on the thought, Alex flew above Kushina's head and activated the Soul Sealing Technique. A beam of purple light rained down, and her soul visibly emerged from the top of her head. It seemed this sealing technique was indeed domineering; even an Edo Tensei body couldn't restrict Kushina's soul.

The only pity was that the target had to be restrained first. Otherwise, this move would be a killer weapon countering Edo Tensei. Summon as many as you want; I'll just pull the souls out and seal them.

Alex completely extracted Kushina's ethereal soul but stopped before the final step of sealing. He just enveloped her soul in purple light and guided it to her corpse nearby. Then he slowly relaxed control, letting the soul merge into her body step by step until it was completely submerged.

Alex waited for the subsequent scene with some anticipation. Would breathing return? Would the heart start beating again? Or would nothing happen?

The answer was clearly the latter.

Alex shook his head. Kushina still lay on the ground without any movement. Body temperature cold, no breathing, no heartbeat—still a corpse. He extended white lines to probe her physical condition.

"Alex, how is it?" Konan asked curiously.

"Seems I thought too simply." Alex retracted the white lines. "How could reviving a person be that easy..."

"Her body is completely dead. Cells withered, blood lost, internal organs all destroyed. Soaking for over a decade, all internal bodily functions have been ruined. Impossible to recover."

Even to inject a soul, one should prepare an intact body with vitality. Or if the soul was knocked back in shortly after death, perhaps they could come back to life. But now... having been dead for over a decade, the body was already decayed and unusable.

"Hmm?" Alex suddenly sensed an inexplicable pulling force on Kushina's soul. A force from the unseen was trying to take her soul away.

" The Pure Land..."

It appeared very abruptly, its direction indeterminate. Alex immediately used the purple light to pull Kushina's soul out of the corpse again, securing it. Then he injected it back into the Edo Tensei body from before.

Because the soul had been drawn away, a small part of the Edo body had collapsed. But after Kushina moved back in, new paper debris appeared out of thin air, filling the scattered limb parts. It soon recovered to its original state.

She stood there blankly.

"Eh... the initial version of Edo Tensei is troublesome..."

Alex grumbled, then controlled a sheet of white paper inscribed with a black rune to float toward the back of Kushina's head. Then, a magical thing happened. The white paper merged into the back of her head as if it were intangible, causing slight ripples.

This was the control talisman. Just like during the Chunin Exams three years ago, when Orochimaru fought Hiruzen Sarutobi and summoned Hashirama and Tobirama, he inserted kunai with control talismans into the backs of their heads.

Alex floated back three steps, standing with Konan, looking at Kushina Uzumaki. All preparations were complete; he could awaken her consciousness now.

"Wake up, Kushina Uzumaki."

The jutsu activated. Kushina's closed eyelids, covered in cracks, trembled slightly and slowly opened, revealing shattered blue-green pupils. Temporarily unfocused, filled with confusion.

"I... this is..." Kushina gazed blankly at Konan in front of her, blinking hard. "I... wasn't I dead... where is this..."

The confusion receded quickly, and the moment of her death—pierced by the Nine-Tails' claw while Minato activated the Eight Trigrams Sealing—rang in her mind.

"That's right! I should be dead. How am I alive again?"

She woke up completely, quickly surveying her surroundings. She didn't recognize it; hadn't seen it before. It seemed to be a massive storage room. Then her gaze focused on the stranger in front of her. Still didn't recognize her.

Although Konan and Minato Namikaze were both Jiraiya's disciples, they had never met. Kushina only knew that Jiraiya had taught three disciples outside for three years; she didn't know their names or what they looked like.

She looked at Konan guardedly. "Who are you? Did you revive me?"

When she discovered a familiar corpse lying not far away, she instantly screamed, "Isn't that me?!"

"Then what is going on with the current me?"

Kushina hurriedly raised her hands. They were full of cracks, completely unlike a normal body. Sensing carefully, she felt no heartbeat, didn't even need to breathe, and had no sensation in her entire body, just like a dead person.

"How do you feel right now?" A voice suddenly came into her mind.

She hurriedly looked at Konan. "Was that you speaking? Why not speak directly? Can you not speak?"

"Tell me quickly, what on earth is going on? How am I alive, and why is my body in this ghostly state?"

Alex was speechless. Before he could answer his own question, she threw a string of them back.

"You should have heard of Impure World Reincarnation. You were revived by Impure World Reincarnation."

"Impure World Reincarnation?" Kushina froze, then realization dawned. "That evil forbidden jutsu invented by the Second Hokage?"

She had naturally heard of it but never seen it. She didn't expect to be revived by such an evil technique one day. But she really didn't want a body like this.

She complained loudly, "I don't feel anything right now. No different from a puppet or a cold stone."

Understanding the current situation, Kushina didn't even ask about Konan's identity anymore. She urgently wanted to know the thing she cared about most.

"Naruto... How is Naruto?"
