Chapter 126: Black Shard, Brand New Storage White Paper
Inside the room.
"Konan, give this a try." Alex showed off his results ostentatiously. "This is the Storage White Paper I created after copying the booklet from the Ninja Tool Clan."
A sheet of white paper floated in front of Konan, its surface covered in black, twisted runes.
She took the paper and squeezed it. After feeling it for a moment, she asked in confusion, "Alex, this looks no different from the ordinary white paper we usually make?"
"How do I use it?"
"Just infuse Chakra, and you can use it. Same as a storage scroll."
Konan nodded, and a wisp of blue Chakra emerged from her fingertips and flowed into the white paper.
In an instant, a stool fell out of the paper and landed on the ground.
"This space..." She was slightly surprised. "There are actually twenty cubic meters inside."
A sheet of white paper, the size of a palm and as thin as a cicada's wing, actually contained such a large storage space inside.
The storage scrolls ninjas usually used were about the same size as standard Ninjutsu scrolls, with an internal capacity of only two to three cubic meters.
The larger the storage space, the larger the physical form of the storage scroll.
For example, the large summoning scroll shown at Ryuchi Cave last time. As for the 50-cubic-meter storage scroll treasured by the Ninja Tool Clan, its physical form was practically the size of a tree with a one-meter diameter.
But now, this piece of white paper in her hand achieved a storage space of twenty cubic meters.
So lightweight and portable—it was simply a revolutionary ninja tool for the ninja world.
If this were sold, it would probably be more popular than her paper bombs...
Thinking of this, Konan asked, "Alex, how much does it cost you to make one of these Storage White Papers?"
Alex swayed his body proudly. "It just costs some Chakra and energy. Making a thousand sheets a day is no problem at all."
As he spoke, he controlled a blank sheet of white paper to float in front of Konan, demonstrating the production process in full.
Visible to the naked eye, black twisted runes emerged on the white paper one after another, linking together. Finally, with a flash of light, the rune inscription was complete. Another Storage White Paper with a capacity of twenty cubic meters was finished.
The whole process took less than ten seconds.
Konan immediately grabbed the new Storage White Paper and sensed it.
"Sure enough, it has the exact same storage volume as the previous one."
She looked at Alex with excitement. "Alex, you're amazing. You're much more efficient than the Ninja Tool Clan is at making storage scrolls."
Thinking of that clan's largest 50-cubic-meter storage scroll, Konan asked, "Alex, can you make one with fifty cubic meters?"
Alex shook his head. "Right now, using the results of that clan's years of research, I can only make twenty cubic meters using white paper."
"The larger the storage space, the stronger the power of the inscribed space runes. The material of the white paper can't withstand higher spatial forces. The reason the Ninja Tool Clan could make a 50-cubic-meter one is that they used a very unique and rare material as a base, which barely withstood the stronger spatial force."
"Is that so..." Konan said calmly. "Even if you can't make fifty cubic meters, storing twenty cubic meters in a single sheet of paper is already very strong."
"To further increase the storage space, I either need to improve the strength of the white paper or gain a deeper mastery of the space sealing runes to optimize the spatial inscription. The research notes from the Ninja Tool Clan can only support me in inscribing runes for twenty cubic meters on white paper."
"Space sealing runes?" Konan took out the black shard she had obtained from the alternate dimension at the very end.
She held it in her palm to examine it.
It was palm-sized, pitch-black, and filled with an ancient, weathered aura.
"Alex, look, there seem to be characters on this shard?"
Alex hurriedly leaned in closer to take a look.
Between the intricate, unknown patterns, the surface was covered in densely packed, tiny script. It was incredibly dense, appearing on both the front and back.
But... he couldn't read it. It wasn't any kind of writing he knew.
"Konan, do you recognize it?"
Konan observed it for a long time before shaking her head. "I don't. The ninja world shouldn't have writing like this."
"Leave it to me."
Alex rolled up the black shard, covering both sides with his paper body.
As long as it was text and contained useful information, it was within the scope of his Cheat ability's replication. He could instantly understand the meaning and master it.
Cheat activated!
In the next second, the copy was complete.
Alex remained wrapped around the black shard, appearing to be in a daze.
The replication was successful.
He had learned the meaning of the characters engraved on the black shard. And precisely because of that, he was shaken by the text.
It wasn't Ninjutsu, Sealing Jutsu, or ancient secrets. It wasn't even a magical power or technique.
It used the most essential, simple language to expound upon a thing, a concept...
What is Space?
"Alex?" Konan called out softly, worry on her face.
Usually, the copying process finished very quickly. Why was he still wrapped around the black shard without any reaction? Could there be something harmful about this object from the alternate dimension?
"Don't worry, Konan," Alex said, detaching from the black shard and flying up. "I'm fine."
Seeing that he was normal, Konan breathed a sigh of relief and asked curiously, "Alex, what is recorded on it?"
"A fragmented description of space."
"Description of space? Fragmented?"
"That's right. It expounds on a portion of the essence of space. If mastered completely, it could help one sense and utilize the power of space. Unfortunately, it's a shard, so it's incomplete."
Although he couldn't see the full picture, the portion Alex had copied and mastered brought a pleasant surprise.
His current understanding of space sealing runes had greatly surpassed the results of the Ninja Tool Clan's centuries of research.
Alex controlled a sheet of white paper to float in front of him and Konan.
Using his updated understanding of space, he began to recreate the Storage White Paper.
One by one, black twisted runes, far more abstruse than before, emerged from the surface of the white paper. As if coming alive, they connected with each other, finally forming a pattern similar to the designs on the black shard.
"Konan, try it again."
Konan nodded, pinched the white paper, and infused Chakra.
Swish!
The next second, her eyes went wide with disbelief. "100 cubic meters!"
Worried she might be mistaken, she sensed it again. "It really is 100 cubic meters!"
She looked at Alex in shock. "Alex, is this the result of what you just copied?"
"Exactly! Through a deeper understanding of space, I made the spatial power in the space sealing runes more stable without changing the material, reducing the pressure on the white paper."
Alex's Storage White Paper had surpassed the 50-cubic-meter storage scroll that the Ninja Tool Clan had painstakingly researched for centuries—all in one fell swoop.
This all stemmed from the explanation of space on the black shard, which greatly improved his comprehension of space.
"Alex!" Konan praised. "I'm afraid this white paper will become the largest storage scroll in the ninja world."
A palm-sized piece of white paper could store 100 cubic meters of items.
For frontline supplies in a ninja war, a single person carrying a few dozen or a hundred sheets of this paper would be enough to supply an entire army.
This greatly improved convenience and concealment.
No longer would they need the logistics of past ninja wars, where supplies for nearly ten thousand people required trains of wagons loaded with hundreds or thousands of bulky storage scrolls to be transported to the front lines.
"Alex! You're amazing!"
Konan hugged Alex and walked toward the bathroom, unable to control her emotions.
"Now, let me witness an even better side of you, Alex~"
