Chapter 125: Return to the Sky Fortress
Inside the dim cavern.
The dusty gray light door flickered violently.
With two whooshing sounds, Konan grabbed Honoka and rushed out of the door, leaving the unknown alternate dimension behind.
The ghosting effect around the light door became heavier and more frequent, flashing incessantly.
"Lady Konan!!" Honoka screamed, looking back at the light door. "Those bugs look like they're coming out!!"
Konan stopped in mid-air about ten meters away and turned to face the portal.
On the gray mirror-like surface of the door, familiar gray worms were indeed drilling their way out.
"Honoka! While the bugs haven't fully emerged yet, use the Adamantine Sealing Chains to whip them back!"
"It looks like this door can't hold on much longer; it will dissipate soon!"
"Okay!" Honoka nodded.
The nine golden chains winding around their bodies whipped at the light door with a swish-swish sound.
The swarm of gray bugs, which had only crawled halfway out, was instantly beaten back into the alternate dimension by the dense sealing power on the chains.
The nine chains were wielded with vigorous power, creating an airtight defense. Golden light illuminated the surroundings. Inside the light door, not a single bug had the chance to drill out completely.
Half a minute later, the strange portal finally reached its limit.
The dusty gray light suddenly brightened to its peak, and then, with a fizzle, it shattered completely. It turned into countless gray specks of starlight, gradually annihilated into the void.
The alternate dimension behind the door, located who knows where, was completely severed from the ninja world, losing all connection.
Honoka retracted the Adamantine Sealing Chains, her face full of exhaustion. "Lady... Lady Konan, the door is gone. We should be safe now, right..."
She felt a lingering fear, and her Chakra was nearly depleted. If that door had held on a little longer, she feared she wouldn't have been able to stop those strange bugs from coming out.
She let out a long sigh of relief and asked anxiously, "Lady Konan, those terrifying bugs shouldn't be able to drill out of the void again, right..."
Konan mused for a moment, slowly landing back on the ground. "The alternate dimension behind the door is most likely not in the ninja world. I don't know the distance, but it must be extremely far away. The bugs inside shouldn't be able to come over."
She didn't know Space-Time Ninjutsu and had almost no understanding of spatial mechanics, so she could only judge by intuition.
"That's good." Honoka sighed in relief. "As long as they can't come over. Those bugs are too terrifying. They aren't afraid of Ninjutsu, and even Sealing Jutsu only partially counters them. If they came to the ninja world..."
The thought of all living beings in the ninja world potentially being devoured made her shudder. Fortunately, they couldn't get out, and the danger was resolved.
"Lady Konan, where to next?"
Konan scrutinized the surroundings in detail. After confirming there were no omissions or hidden dangers, she said coolly, "Return to the Sky Fortress."
They had been out for two days on this trip. They obtained the production method for the storage scrolls that Alex was interested in and also harvested an unknown black shard from the alternate dimension. Although the process was a bit thrilling, everything went relatively smoothly.
Konan waved her hand, and a small patch of white paper flew behind Honoka, condensing into a pair of wings.
Honoka rejoiced, "The wings you give are the best, Lady Konan. Not only do they look good, but they're also fast."
In comparison, the Sky Ninja's flight pack seemed clumsy and troublesome. Every time she used it, it had to be strapped to her chest, which felt stuffy and uncomfortable.
The wings on their backs flapped, and their bodies floated up, flying forward rapidly. They traversed the hundred-meter-long cave in an instant. After flying out of the exit, they headed straight up, quickly turning into two small black dots before disappearing into the horizon.
...
Another border of the Land of Fire.
The Sky Fortress hovered in the cloudless high altitude, thickly wrapped in the Hiding in Mist Technique, showing no trace of its presence.
On the deck.
Shion, with her pale golden hair reaching her waist, was crouching happily by the water channel. Her two small, fair hands reached into the water from time to time, teasing the colorful koi fish inside. She revealed a smile that came from the bottom of her heart.
Samui sat on the lawn nearby, calmly watching Shion play.
In less than a week, this high-and-mighty Priestess, who originally seemed to have seen through everything and had no interest in anything, was finally showing the innocence and romance appropriate for her age.
Samui herself had a smile on her lips, feeling that changing her way of life wasn't too bad. She didn't have to worry about the village anymore, nor did she have to rack her brain fighting and killing every day to complete missions.
Living in this Hanging Gardens of Babylon floating in the high sky, her spirit was greatly relaxed, and her body and mind felt ethereal.
Splash!
Shion suddenly scooped up a handful of water and splashed it at Samui.
The clear water scattered colorful light under the sun, pouring directly onto her chest and soaking her clothes. Round water droplets drilled relentlessly into that bottomless abyss.
Shion's eyes went wide, her gaze following the water droplets tightly, as if attracted by that abyss.
She mumbled, "Samui, I really don't know how you grew like that. No matter how many times I look, it seems exaggerated. So heavy, yet so perky... it simply defies common sense."
"Little Shion..." Samui chuckled, wiping the water stains with a handkerchief while staring at Shion with meaning. "If you want to continue growing, or even become like me, I can teach you a Secret Technique."
"A Secret Technique?" Shion weighed herself up and asked curiously, "Can this kind of thing be improved with a Secret Technique? Is this how you ninjas are, coming up with all sorts of weird and bizarre jutsu?"
"Come here, I'll whisper it to you."
"F-fine..." Shion insisted stubbornly, "I'm just curious, not that I want to improve."
She walked over to Samui and sat down, leaning her ear close. "Alright, you can tell me now."
"The Secret Technique is... THIS!!"
Samui suddenly launched a surprise attack. Her hands grabbed Shion and instantly applied force.
"Eek!!"
Her sensitive areas under attack, Shion let out a scream instantly.
"Ah! Samui! You bad woman!! What barbaric force! Let go of me right now!!"
Shion felt like she was going to explode; this woman was simply too rude. How could such delicate places be ravaged with such violence?
No, she had to retaliate!
She immediately struck back.
The two of them, wrestling and playing, were unaware that Konan had been standing silently behind them for quite a while, observing.
Honoka was there too. She was staring in shock at the flash of spring scenery from the two sisters, her mouth wide enough to fit an eggplant.
Alex and the other sheets of paper floated leisurely beside Konan. He watched the "action scene" on the lawn with unblinking eyes.
A Sky Garden needs beautiful girls playing and making noise to appear more lighthearted and pleasant.
Samui was the first to sense something was wrong. After pinning Shion to the ground, she subconsciously turned her head to look.
"Ah, Lady Konan, you're back!"
She quickly stood up, pulling Shion up at the same time.
Their clothes were disheveled, and their cheeks were flushed. Shion, in particular, was as red as a cooked shrimp, keeping her head low, wishing she could bury it in her chest.
"Lady... Lady Konan," she squeaked, her voice as quiet as a mosquito, barely audible.
"No need to be so serious," Konan said with a calm expression. "It's just playing around, not a mistake."
She walked forward. "I'm going back to my room first. You two carry on."
Alex flew behind her.
Better to go study that black shard first. I'll properly "interrogate" these two tonight.
