Rage exploded inside Summer. She grabbed a fistful of Danica's hair and yanked her head backward.
"You vicious woman," Summer spat. "How dare you push him like this? He hasn't even fully recovered yet."
"Get your hands off me, you psycho," Danica shoved Summer away roughly. "You are insane. Don't pin this on me. If he is that weak, he should be in bed, not out shopping. This is your fault."
"You—"
Summer's hand twitched, the urge to slap her burning through her veins.
"Ma'am. The ambulance is on its way," the saleswoman interrupted anxiously.
Summer forced her rage down. She needed to focus on Adrian.
She drew in a shaky breath and turned back to him, dropping to her knees at his side.
"Stay with me," she whispered, gripping his hand. "You are going to be okay. Just hold on."
But Adrian could barely stay awake. Sound became distant and muffled. His vision swam, shadows bleeding into one another. The ceiling lights blurred into indistinct halos. His body felt heavy.
