"Many things have happened over the last six years," Summer said, pulling Georgea back to the moment. "Suspicion, blame, humiliation—I've endured enough. If you don't trust me, there is no reason for me to stay here. I'll leave."
Georgea panicked. She couldn't afford to let her go yet. Adrian still needed Summer.
"I'm sorry," she said quickly. "This was my mistake."
It was the first time Summer had ever heard her admit fault. A subtle sense of triumph stirred within her. It felt like gaining the upper hand. But she had no intention of accepting the apology so easily.
"If I stay, this will happen again," Summer replied firmly. "Today it was you. Tomorrow, Adrian might question me. That kind of tension won't be good for his condition. If he becomes more confused, who will take responsibility? It's better if I move somewhere else."
Georgea fell silent, weighing her words. Seeing Gideon and Summer in close proximity could easily ignite doubt and anger in Adrian.
