A chill ran down Summer's spine, her gaze flicking instinctively toward Gideon's closed office door.
'So this is how he does things,' she thought bitterly. 'Cold, ruthless… and merciless.'
Summer's thoughts spun wildly. She couldn't help wondering what Lucy had done to provoke Gideon's wrath so severely.
"Not only her," Julie continued, "but her two friends were dismissed as well."
Summer stiffened. "Lucy's friends? You mean Eve and Dalia?"
Julie nodded. "Yes." She sighed and went on to explain, "Dalia failed to meet a client's demands. Mr. Woods was furious and dismissed her on the spot. And Eve…" She shook her head slowly. "She was instructed to distribute flyers, but she refused, saying it wasn't part of her job."
Julie shrugged. "She disobeyed Mr. Woods' order and paid the price."
Summer fell silent. Her mind drifted back to that day when the three women had mocked her and spoken cruelly about Hope. A thought stirred uneasily in her heart.
