Chapter 122: Man and Fortress Blow Up Together
"Why?"
Cross asked, his voice flat as if he didn't expect an answer.
The three remaining survivors had no intention of answering; they were completely focused on Cross's movements, ready to fire and block his bullets coming from unpredictable angles at any moment.
Seeing he wouldn't get a response and couldn't bait them into revealing weaknesses, Cross chose to go on the offensive.
He fired three test shots, realizing his opponents were prepared and easily blocked his bullets.
Aware the situation was against him, Cross adjusted his condition. He had fewer bullets than his opponents and was outnumbered; if he ran out of ammo, it was game over.
This was a fact he understood, and the three opponents knew it too.
However, because Cross's marksmanship was superior, the three opponents didn't dare fire recklessly to drain his ammunition, fearing he'd find an opening to take them out.
Otherwise, with such a huge numerical advantage, Cross would've been worn down and killed by them already.
So after thinking it through, Cross decided to attempt the curved bullet technique—a skill he could only pull off at his absolute peak.
It was an ability he could only perform when executing fate's will and facing extremely tough situations; normally, he couldn't get the hang of it at all.
But now, in this life-or-death crisis, Cross could only pray he was still blessed by fate.
Otherwise, he'd have to join his son in the afterlife.
Slightly adjusting his breathing, Cross instantly entered the adrenaline-surge state.
Then something surprising happened: he felt like he'd connected to an incredibly vast presence, becoming part of it.
In this strange state, Cross felt he could do things he couldn't do before.
He fired a test shot, and under his deliberate guidance, the bullet drifted through the air like a fish gliding through water.
As three muffled thuds rang out, three more bodies dropped in the room.
Their deaths were remarkably similar, all showing expressions of total shock.
As if they'd been killed by something completely insane.
Cross, who'd caused this, was equally stunned, because he too was freaked out by the sight of a single bullet seemingly hunting down and killing three people on its own.
However, compared to the three who'd died, Cross, still breathing, could actually think.
So after a moment of shock, he chalked this power up to fate's blessing, then calmly accepted it.
After confirming he was still in fate's good graces, Cross's determination to kill Sloan became even stronger.
Because if he could use this miraculous power to kill Sloan's crew, it meant he could also use this power to kill Sloan himself.
With his mind made up, Cross didn't hesitate, raising his gun and heading out to kill Sloan.
Arriving at Sloan's office and finding it trashed, Cross instantly figured Sloan had already bailed.
Fortunately, he knew the headquarters layout inside and out and knew Sloan didn't have many escape routes, so he went straight after him through the secret passage.
While Sloan and Cross were playing their cat-and-mouse game, Chris finally arrived at the Assassin Brotherhood headquarters with Fox.
Looking at the old, sprawling complex, everyone felt something.
Fox thought about how this organization, which once followed fate's guidance and upheld justice, had been turned into a tool for dirty work in Sloan's hands.
Wesley, on the other hand, looked miserable because Chris demanded he fight his way through solo, and if more than ten people escaped, he'd have to undergo more "special training."
Just hearing the name of that ultimate humiliating training made Wesley shudder; he couldn't even stand to imagine what kind of torture it was.
Chris, who'd just scared Wesley, was somewhat curious, because after arriving here, he felt there was something in this building that strongly attracted him.
Along with this feeling came a spiritual hunger.
As if whatever was inside would be delicious and really beneficial to him.
After thinking back briefly, Chris guessed the item should be the highly unique Loom of Fate from the original movie.
The reason for his hunger was naturally the misfortune ability he'd acquired.
After all, only this fragment of power, which came from the Final Destination world and belonged to the death branch of fate's primary concept, would connect with the Loom of Fate, which was also a concept of fate.
Though he knew the reason, Chris also got a little curious.
He was already looking forward to what abilities he'd gain after absorbing this fate power.
Chris snapped his fingers, then looked at Wesley, "Alright, let's see what you've got."
"Uh..." Wesley wanted to say more, but he was afraid Chris would pile on more requirements, so he silently shouldered his bolter and charged toward the textile factory.
Fox, standing nearby, wanted to follow, but Chris stopped her.
"What are you doing? This is my student's solo mission. Why are you trying to crash the party? Stay put."
Fox's eyebrow twitched, and she glared at Chris, trying to intimidate him with her stare.
But in Chris's eyes, this was pure seduction, and it only turned him on more, having no other effect.
It was a shame Stewie was still perched on his shoulder, so Chris couldn't get too wild. He just pulled Fox closer into his arms and then watched Wesley's assault.
In the original movie, this kid's plan was to use thousands of rats strapped with plastic explosives to create chaos in the textile factory before breaking in.
But now, with the bolter's assistance, there was obviously no need for such hassle.
The moment he crossed the bridge, he was spotted by the security guards manning it, who immediately opened fire on him without hesitation.
Seeing this, Wesley stopped messing around, raised his bolter, and fired a shot.
With a BOOM, the guard tower was blown sky-high. Then, under the horrified stare of the guard in another watchtower, Wesley fired another round at him.
Before he could even react, that watchtower and the guard were obliterated in the explosion, without even large chunks of debris remaining.
As the results of the two blasts became clear, Wesley's previously troubled expression was instantly replaced by a grin.
The smile on his face couldn't be contained.
"With this kind of firepower, why bother practicing curved bullets! It's a complete waste of time."
Muttering complaints at Chris, Wesley aimed at the heavy iron gate and fired another shot.
With a BANG, a massive hole was blown through the gate. Seeing this, Wesley completely forgot about the little pistol at his waist, turning straight into a one-man artillery unit.
If his body hadn't prevented it, his finger on the trigger would've refused to let go.
However, as Wesley's grin grew wider, Chris's expression grew darker.
This wasn't the scene he wanted to see!
Where was the brilliant gunplay, the sparks flying from bullets being deflected by knives, and the badass heroism of a lone wolf storming the enemy stronghold?
These were all performances Chris had been looking forward to for ages. What was this now? A demolition derby? This was just ridiculous!
