"Uh, okay! Let me help you take your luggage upstairs, then I'll drive you to the hospital."
In the car, Sophie told her uncle everything that had happened during these past months.
"I know you were the one who gave him that letter, so you should already know what was in it." Sophie kept her head lowered as she spoke.
"Yes, I read the letter too," Matthew replied calmly.
"I'm sorry. I never told you the truth."
After a moment of silence, Matthew said, "It's all right. I know you must have thought it over very carefully before deciding to keep it hidden. Besides, this isn't really your fault. Back then Sarah didn't tell me the truth either. You were keeping it secret for your mother. Strictly speaking, I'm just an outsider in all this. It's your matter—you should be the one to decide."
