"I'm serious," Ned told her, his gaze intensely focused. "If you want to leave me, I won't agree—unless we leave together. I won't let you go alone."
"Stop joking with me! You could never give up everything here just to leave with me. If you were that kind of person, you wouldn't be Ned," she said.
He laughed again.
"You really understand me so well." Then he put away his smile and looked at her deeply. "I almost forgot… the person in this world who understands me the best is you."
Sophie turned her face away…
Ned picked up the suit jacket from the back of the chair.
"No matter how much you understood me in the past, and no matter whether you believe that in the future I would change myself for you…" He looked at her and said, "Everything I said to you today—I meant every single word."
With that, he walked to the door, opened it, and left.
