I woke up and squinted at my alarm clock: 6:30 AM. Outside, the distant, rhythmic hum of a lawnmower drifted through the window—a peaceful start to a very loud day.


Beside me, Zainab was still out cold. I guess she really couldn't handle another night alone. "Hey, Zain, wake up. It's 6:30," I said, tapping her shoulder.


She stirred, mumbling into her pillow. "Just one more minute, Hassan... I'm sleepy."


I groaned, half-amused. "Hassan isn't here. Zain, wake up!"


Her eyes flickered open and she stretched. "Good morning, God," she yawned, blinking at me. "I'm hungry."


"Oh my God, Zain, food is your first thought?" I asked, laughing. "Anyway, breakfast is on me."


She stood up with one final stretch. "You can't blame me. Hassan makes sure I'm well-fed before I even leave the bed. It's a habit now."


I struggled to contain my laughter, but she gave me a hard shove that opened the floodgates. "Okay, okay! Go change. I'll be down in a minute."
