For several days now Haley had felt Roth pulling away from her. It had hurt because she'd had absolutely no idea what could have triggered the change in him. He'd no longer shared meals with her, had kept all conversations that they had limited only a few words. They'd stopped going out for the little walks that had become part of their routine. There had been no watching TV together. Even their time in bed were they just lay in silence together until they fell asleep and been completely taken out.
Haley had actually been worried that Roth would soon be suggesting that the two of them go back to having a barrier of pillows between them. When she had taken the bull by the horns and had just asked him why he was behaving so differently. Haley had been expecting for him to either be dismissive of her, telling her that she was imagining things, or for Roth to blow up over it.
