Deacon Roth went through paperwork, like a machine.
His sharp eyes, going over documents, and instantly finding inconsistencies and errors. Having been at it since the moment that he had sat down that morning, he should have been tired enough to stop, especially since it was almost lunch time. But Deacon still felt his though he could go on for hours.
Such drive could have been mistaken for him wanting to show exactly why he was the CEO. But that was not the case at all. What was driving him was not a sudden need to show that he was the best at his job. Instead, it was a desperate attempt to not let his mind have any freedom to think. But it was not working at all, even as he continued to go through paperwork at a bruising pace.
Deacon's mind still found a way to keep going back to what had gone on during that faithful game night.
