Instead of going with the plan set out for him and marrying Ashley Greene, Deacon had married Haley Slater. There was no doubt in his mind that his father was very upset about that. Even so, Deacon had not expected his father to be angry enough to give him a dressing down in front of Slater. But that was exactly what he had done and Deacon was mortified.
He was so very careful with the persona that he presented to the world. Always making sure that the world saw him as someone formidable, but in just one afternoon, his father had made sure to destroy that image in front of Haley Slater.
No doubt Slater now saw him in a different light. When she saw Deacon now, she probably did not see a strong capable man who could take care of himself. Thanks to his father all that she saw was likely a weakling that had just sat there and allowed his father to belittle him. But that was not something that Deacon could easily explain to Slater.
