Instead of having their lunch, in the dining room like they normally did, the Roths were eating out by the pool. At first glance it looked like a private affair with just the family having their meal outside so that they could enjoy the lovely view.
But that was not the case.
There was an actual live band playing music off in the distance. Their melodic sounds setting the atmosphere, making everything appear tranquil. Carefully concealed all around them, the staff lay in waiting. They showed up only when summoned. Pouring wine, and swiftly clearing plates as the family moved from course to course.
Lucas knew that he was overdoing it, especially for a family meal, but he felt that it was necessary. After all, they had a new family member to welcome. The woman was somebody that Lucas did not approve of. Even though she now carried the same last name as him, to Lucas she would always be a Slater.
