Chapter 124 - Room For One More

I hated the sound of a siren.

It didn't matter how far away it was. Even faint, even swallowed by traffic, it reached me. It always dragged something up from the past. Something I preferred buried.

"Should we take a cab? Or walk?" Cammy asked, glancing toward the flashing lights down the street.

"Cab," Zoey answered.

Red light flickered against the glass buildings ahead. A small crowd had gathered. An ambulance door stood open.

It wasn't far from the office.

"Do you know what happened?" I asked.

"I heard someone jumped in front of a car," Shaun replied. "Probably drunk."

A short laugh followed.

I turned away.

"Right. So make sure to control yourself, okay?"

"No, not today," Shaun scoffed.

We had finally completed the project.

There was no stopping them from getting wasted tonight.

And I wasn't planning to be the responsible one either.

The past three days had been exhausting.
