"Naruto: Ice God"Chapter 123: Awakening
Eyes closed, then opened.
The first thing that came into view was a field of green.
Judging by the shape, it was probably the peak of a tent.
Lowering his gaze, Feng Bai saw two heads—one white, one black—resting beside his left hand.
From their hairstyles and colors, Feng Bai could tell they were Kakashi and Obito.
Looking further into the distance, he could see three small figures huddled together in a corner, heads bowed in rest—all familiar faces.
Green-clad Might Guy, black-haired Ebisu, and Shiranui Genma, who even in sleep kept a senbon clenched in his mouth.
"You're awake, Feng Bai."
A slightly surprised voice came from the right. Following the sound, Feng Bai saw Rin standing beside the tent.
Rin's voice wasn't loud, but it instantly woke everyone from their slumber.
Obito raised his head in confusion, just in time to see Rin supporting Feng Bai's upper body so he could lean against the bed.
Pouting pitifully, Obito lunged forward and hugged Feng Bai tightly, tears and snot streaming down his face.
Why does this scene feel so familiar?
"Let go, it hurts—wait, it doesn't hurt?"
Feng Bai, who had expected pain from his wounds, pushed Obito away with disgust, only to realize he felt no pain whatsoever.
"Feng Bai, I'm so glad you woke up! Now we can continue our youthful competitions!"
Guy, Ebisu, and the others gathered around at the commotion. Seeing Feng Bai safe and sound, they all showed expressions of relief—especially Guy, who flashed his brilliant white teeth so brightly that Feng Bai was nearly blinded.
"Spare me the competitions. I don't want to move at all right now—I just want a proper vacation." Feng Bai waved his hand helplessly, then suddenly remembered something: "I recall running into one of the Lucky Trio—one of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen. Who saved me?"
"Heh heh—" Obito was about to show off proudly when Kakashi mercilessly pushed him aside.
"It was ANBU who found us. They asked about your whereabouts, and after learning you'd left the camp, they led us in the search."
"You have no idea how nervous we were when ANBU showed up."
"Feng Bai, to escape from one of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen—I acknowledge your passion and youth!"
Everyone started talking at once, leaving Feng Bai unsure whom to respond to first.
And what did they mean by "escaped from one of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen"?
If he'd had chakra back then, he would have turned the whole Lucky Trio into a laughingstock, believe it or not!
"Hey, brats, what's all this racket?"
A bold voice rang out at the tent entrance, instantly silencing everyone.
With steady footsteps, Tsunade entered, dressed in standard Konoha ninja gear.
Even with her chest covered by armor, its magnificent contours were unmistakable.
"Yo, kid, you woke up after just one day unconscious. I thought you'd be out for several more days. But this is good—knowing you're fine, that troublesome father of yours can finally settle down for a while."
Raising an eyebrow, Tsunade pushed aside Kakashi and Obito, who were closest to Feng Bai, lifted the blanket covering him, and prepared to examine his injuries.
"With so many people here, isn't this a bit inappropriate, Lady Tsunade..."
Seeing Tsunade about to lift his shirt in front of everyone, Feng Bai began feeling embarrassed.
"They're all little brats—what's there to worry about? Fine, since the patient insists, you lot get out! I'll keep Rin here to assist."
Tsunade gently patted Feng Bai's head, stopped her actions, and ushered the others out quickly, leaving only Rin to help.
When Tsunade lifted Feng Bai's shirt, she instinctively averted her gaze, using her peripheral vision to confirm there was no blood before turning her head back.
"What incredible recovery ability."
Seeing Feng Bai's back without even a trace of scarring, Rin blurted out in amazement.
"Mm..."
Hearing Rin's words, Tsunade frowned and nodded.
"Completely healed?"
Feng Bai was puzzled too. When he'd been struck by those shuriken, he clearly remembered feeling the pain, and there should have been a penetrating wound in his abdomen...
Could Isobu have intervened?
"Rin, step outside for a moment."
Clearly remembering the location of Feng Bai's wounds, Tsunade composed herself and asked Rin to leave the tent.
"Let's hear it. Judging by your expression, you seem to know what's going on."
Reading something in Feng Bai's face, Tsunade crossed her arms, sat on the edge of his bed, placed her left leg over her right, and raised her chin, signaling Feng Bai to speak.
"Uh..."
Feng Bai began brainstorming.
Tsunade should be trustworthy—she was his senior sister, after all. And from the original story, her willingness to take over the mess left by the Third Hokage showed she possessed the so-called "Will of Fire."
She was just too impulsive and had a strong gambling addiction.
"It probably has to do with Isobu inside me—the Three-Tails..."
Feng Bai didn't describe the events in detail, only explaining that he'd been attacked and, seizing the opportunity, had sealed the Three-Tails within himself.
He also informed Tsunade about one of his attackers being an unidentified Uchiha member.
"By the way, Lady Tsunade, weren't you working as an advisor at the rear hospital? How did you end up here?"
While Tsunade was processing all the information Feng Bai had shared, he curiously asked about her presence.
"Hmph, didn't you hear what I said earlier? That troublesome father of yours caused quite a commotion when he learned you were injured."
Tsunade irritably pressed her hand on Feng Bai's head and ruffled his hair thoroughly.
She had been doing fine in the rear, only needing to direct medical ninja in surgeries. Though overtime had become routine, the conditions were still far better than the front lines.
But on the day Feng Bai was attacked, Tsunade had been sleeping soundly in the hospital's duty room after a few drinks when Danzo barged in with his men, forcibly broke down the door, and brandishing an order from the Third Hokage, demanded Tsunade rush to the Mist front immediately.
"Your father... with those injuries of yours, any medical ninja could have treated them, but he insisted on calling me over. Thanks to him, I'm now stuck stationed here long-term until the war ends before I can return to the village."
Tsunade scratched her head in annoyance, complaining aloud, though she didn't truly feel displeased.
The front-line situation was worse than expected. As a healer with a compassionate heart, seeing so many wounded, even without orders from the Third Hokage and Danzo, Tsunade had no intention of leaving.
