Ember vale.
In the village of Ember vale young girl named Lray sat on a sun-kissed stone, dipping her weary feet into the crystal-clear spring water. As the cool liquid enveloped her skin, she closed her eyes, letting the sweet songs of birds and gentle rustle of leaves soothe her soul. The warm breeze carried the scent of blooming flowers, and she breathed deeply, feeling alive. With a soft smile, she began to sing, her voice blending harmoniously with nature's melody.
As she sat there, the warm sun on her skin and the cool water on her feet was absolute bliss. She sang softly, her voice carried away by the gentle breeze. The trees seemed to sway in rhythm, and the birds joined in, creating a symphony of sounds. She felt carefree, lost in the moment.
Time seemed to stand still as she soaked her feet, letting go of worries and troubles. The spring's gentle gurgling and the rustling leaves were like nature's own lullaby.
Just as she was drifting into a peaceful reverie, she heard a faint call: " young lady Lray, Young lady Lray, your mother is looking for you!" The voice broke the spell, and she reluctantly pulled her feet out of the water, shaking off the excess droplets.
She smiled wistfully, knowing her mother's timing was impeccable. "Coming, Ana!" she replied, drying her feet with a cloth she had brought along.
With a final glance at the serene surroundings, she made her way back to the village, feeling refreshed.
As Lray walked home she saw two ladies going the market to buy silks and other items she great them warmly and they response with a smile on their face, looking at her damp feet they knew she was coming from the stream.
As she approached her home, her mother, Liana stood outside, looking relieved. "Lray, I've been looking everywhere for you! You know you're not supposed to wander off alone."
Lray apologized, "I'm sorry, Mother. I just needed some fresh air." Liana smiled, her expression softening. "I know, child. But it is time for lunch and your father was invited by his majesty at the palace for a general meeting. He'll be announcing something important today but we don't what it is so we wait for your father's return "
"Okay mother" after some minutes Lray couldn't control her curiosity,
"Mother, do you think king's announcement is connected to the rumors of the king wage war against their neighboring due his greed and power hungry possession?" she asked, her voice laced with concern.
Liana's expression turned somber, and she chose her words carefully. "We'll learn more when your father returns from the meeting, and please Lray don't say this to anyone okay. Your fathern is general he will provide guidance and clarity."
Lray nodded, but her mind was already racing with possibilities. The whispers of the king's aggression towards the neighboring Kingdom had been circulating for weeks, and she couldn't shake the feeling that their lives were about to change forever.
Her father, General Ryker, was a respected leader, admired for his honor and compassion. Her mother, Liana, was a skilled healer, known for her kindness.
The villagers adored Lary's family, and they reciprocated with love and support. General Ryker's fairness and wisdom earned him respect, while Liana's healing touch brought comfort.
However, King Arion tyranny disrupted their peaceful lives. When General Ryker refused to support the king's war against neighboring kingdoms, he was accused of treason. The king's soldiers stormed their home, arresting and brutally killing General Ryker.
At the council meeting,
King Arion stood before his council, his voice booming with authority. "We have been presented with an opportunity to expand our kingdom's borders and assert our dominance. I have decided that we will wage war against the Kingdom of Everia."
The room fell silent, with murmurs of dissent and concern. General Ryker, Lray's father, stepped forward, his expression stern. "Your Majesty, I strongly advise against this decision. The Kingdom of Everia provided us with crucial aid during our own time of need when we where at war with vanilla Kingdom. Their support was instrumental in our victory. It would be dishonorable to repay their kindness with aggression."
The king's face darkened, his eyes flashing with anger. "Dishonor? You speak of honor, General Ryker, when you should be speaking of power and progress. The Kingdom of Everia may have helped us in the past, but they are now a threat to our growth and supremacy. We will not be held back by sentimental obligations."
General Ryker bowed his head humbly, his voice firm. "With all due respect, Your Majesty, I must reiterate my opposition to this war. It goes against our values of gratitude and loyalty. I will not commit our men to fight against a people who have shown us kindness and compassion."
The king's expression turned cold, his voice dripping with disdain. "Very well, general Ryker Your dissent is noted. But know this: those who do not stand with me will be considered enemies of the kingdom. I expect your full cooperation in this matter."
When general Ryker return home he told his wife about their meeting and his decision concerning the matter, although his voice was firm but there was little fear afraid of what the future will bring for him and his household and his wife saw all of them but she could only support him silently because once his husband decision is made nothing will changed his mind.
Lray, listening from the sidelines, felt a sense of unease. She knew her father's stance would not be taken lightly by the king. She feared for the future of their Village and the consequences of her father's action
General Ryker's opposition to the king's war plans was met with swift and merciless judgment. The king, fueled by his ambition and arrogance, declared general Ryker a traitor and a threat to the kingdom's stability. The once-respected leader was arrested, tried, and found guilty of treason.
The day of general Ryker's execution, Lray watched in horror as her father was led to the gallock, his dignity and honor intact despite the shackles on his wrists. "I am proud of who I am and what I stand for," he declared, his voice ringing out across the courtyard. "My loyalty is to our people, not to a tyrant who would sacrifice our future for his own ambition."
The king's soldiers silenced him, by culting his head off and his blood spilled all over the arena at that moment Lray's world shattered. Her mother, Liana, was taken away, demoted to a life of servitude as a maid in the palace. The villagers who had once revered general Ryker were now forced into slavery, their lives forever changed by the king's cruelty.
Lray's heart ached as she watched her mother struggle to come to terms with their new reality. "Mother, I'm so sorry," she whispered, holding Liana tightly.
Liana's eyes, once bright and full of life, now seemed dull and lifeless. "We must survive, Lray," she whispered back. "We must find a way to endure and one day, bring justice to the king's tyranny."
The days turned into weeks, and the weeks into months. Lray and her mother lived in the shadows, their lives marked by pain, loss, and hardship. But Lray's determination to bring justice to her family and village only grew stronger until the day she was summoned by the king only for her to meet with his ridiculous proposal.
End of the flashback
The king kept his word.
When dawn rose over the crimson roofs of Valdara, Lyra was dragged from her cell and placed before his throne once more. His expression was calm, almost tender.
" Have you considered the proposal Lyra"
" I have nothing to consider you majesty"
The king looks at her with smile in his face but the smile didn't reach his eyes.
"It seems like you want to fellow your father foot steps but have you considered the consequences of your actions Lyra"
" My father is honorable man who die with honour your majesty "
He look at his guard who understands what he meant and moved to the maid qourta where madam Liana was busy with her work, he dragged her out to meet the king but on his way he meet another guard who told him that the king has instructed him to take lady Liana to the Ember village. Lady Liana thought that the king have forgiven her husband and released her but she did know the worst awaits for her.
At the court room the king looked at Lray for the last time, in his 55 years of been a king he haven't seen someone who is as beautiful as Lyra, her skin like a glass with milk colour even with dirty on her face and body she still stood out among all the beautiful ladies and because of her beauty he vowed that if he didn't have her then he will destroyed her.
"You will return to your village," Arion said, "so you may witness the price of disobedience."
Lyra bowed her head in silence while the king rode at the head of his army while she followed in chains. The road wound through valleys she had known since childhood—fields where she once ran barefoot, rivers that shimmered like glass. Now soldiers marched through them, torches in hand.
When they reached Ember Vale, the village stood quiet in the morning light, unaware of the storm descending from the mountains. Smoke still curled from chimneys, children laughed by the wells, and for a heartbeat Lyra believed the king would spare them.
He dismounted. "Behold your people," he said. "They refused to bend, as you did. Shall I show you mercy or justice?"
She fell to her knees. "Please—leave them. Punish me if you must, but leave them."
Arion's gaze Harding and he smiled wickedly at her only for a moment. Then he gave a single nod to his commander.
The soldiers moved like shadows. Doors were torn open, torches hurled. The first flames leapt skyward, golden and hungry. The sound of panic rose—a single scream, then many—until the valley roared like a furnace.
Lyra tried to run to them, but two guards held her fast. The heat struck her face; the scent of burning wood and wheat filled her lungs.
At that moment she saw her mother held by the king's guard and another guard swiggling his sword at her before she could shout her mother's name the sword landed on her neck and her head roll of on the floor Lyra lost her remaining soul and break down immediately looking at her lifeless mother she couldn't help it but to turned to the king, her voice breaking. "Why? They had nothing, my mother, she did nothing, why them, why not me!"
The king laughed Joyful when he saw the despair and devastation in her eyes.
"Because you had everything I wanted and denied it," he said quietly. "An empire cannot be ruled by mercy."
He watched until the rooftops collapsed and the river reflected fire instead of sunlight. Only then did he speak again. "Take her," he told the slavers waiting beyond the fields. "She is yours now."
Coins exchanged hands. Chains replaced ropes. Lyra was led past the ruins of her home, her wrists bound, her throat raw from unshed cries. Behind her, Ember Vale smoldered—a pyre for the girl she had been.
At the edge of the valley she looked back once more. The air shimmered with heat and memory.
"You will regret this," she whispered, though he was too far to hear.
The slavers pushed her toward the waiting wagons. The road ahead stretched toward the sea, endless and merciless. Yet beneath the ash and sorrow, a single ember glowed.
She would survive.
She would rise.
And one day, Valdara would burn as Ember Vale had burned—by her.
