Chapter 67 - Chapter 66 - Teaching About Magic

Cadmus frowned and couldn't help but let out a sigh. The princess's surgery was more complicated than expected. The reason for this was simple: Dragon Blood. The Valyrians were so mad that they used blood magic to merge dragon blood with the blood of their own race.

Honestly, in Cadmus's eyes, this was total insanity. Not to mention that Dragons and Humans were two different races; the mere instincts of the dragon race could influence the host in every possible way.

The most serious issue was that if Cadmus were to replace Naerys's heart, he would have to find one that was not only compatible but also carried dragon blood...

"Surgery is out of the question." Cadmus changed his plans without any hesitation. Setting aside the task of obtaining a heart, if that were even possible, the chain reaction caused by a heart transplant was something even he couldn't prevent.

He was no god.

Even if magic distorts reality, the ability to create something from nothing was impossible. All matter in the universe was static; it never truly increased.

"In the end, potions will still be the safest path... a blood ritual should help. I have to strengthen the princess's body before long-term exposure to potions..." Cadmus murmured in a calm tone. If the Valyrians hadn't been so mad, things would have been much easier.

"At least the queen won't worry as much." Cadmus thought of Queen Lyanna's appearance and murmured.

Suddenly, a shadow descended from the ceiling and lunged toward Cadmus. The mage showed no intention of defending himself and felt something land on his head. Looking up, he saw a draconic, scaly face staring at him quite innocently.

"Caraxes." Taking the small dragon off his head, Cadmus looked at the reptile in his hands and said in a cold tone, "My head is not a nest."

His response was a childish and quite rebellious roar, making Cadmus look at the little dragon with a rather threatening expression.

"Mitra, as the older sister, you have to discipline your younger brother," Cadmus said to the bird sleeping not far from him. The bird was perched and opened its blood-red eyes.

Mitra gave a disdainful look at the stupid reptile; at the same time, she couldn't help but feel a touch of jealousy seeing the dragon in Cadmus's lap. Apparating to Cadmus's lap, Mitra looked at the dragon with superiority and used her wings to push him away.

Caraxes fell from Cadmus's lap and rolled across the floor before stopping. He stood up furious and attacked the stupid feathered bird.

Cadmus looked at the little dragon with pity. How could Mitra lose to a dragonling? The outcome of the battle had been decided long ago.

And it was exactly as Cadmus expected: Mitra subdued the little dragon with ease, even sitting on him and looking at Cadmus arrogantly, as if to show how incredible she was.

Cadmus laughed and took a potion from his bag. He picked up the little dragon again and made the hatchling drink the potion. "Drink it all; it will help you grow faster," the mage said, seeing the dragon's reluctance to drink the potion.

It was a simple vitality magic potion, excellent for hatchlings to grow faster and healthier. The time it would take for Caraxes to reach adulthood would be shortened by about 70%! In other words, in a few years, Caraxes would become a small flying hill capable of burning down an entire city.

Suddenly, Cadmus heard someone knocking on his door. With a wave of his hand, the door opened to reveal two people. One was Daenerys, and the second was the young prince Gaemon.

Looking at the young prince, Cadmus remembered he had promised to teach Gaemon the ways of magic. However, he had so many things to do that he had delayed it. The fact that the boy hadn't come to see him already showed how patient he was.

"You two arrived at the right time," Cadmus said in a calm tone as he finished giving the last drop of potion to Caraxes. The little dragon curled up and wrapped his tail around his body, falling asleep shortly after. Regardless of the animal, sleep was always the fastest way to grow.

"Are you going to teach us magic?" Daenerys asked with a bright look. After her awakening, she had always wanted to learn magic, but Cadmus was either busy or she didn't care because she was having intimate moments with her fiancé.

"Yes and no." Cadmus rolled his eyes. Teach Daenerys magic? If the girl cast a simple fire spell, she could incinerate the entire Red Keep. The amount of magic in Daenerys was no trivial matter. Cadmus wouldn't teach her magic until she had some control over her own.

"Gaemon will learn magic; as for you, it will only be theoretical lessons," Cadmus said, making Daenerys pout, though she didn't try to beg or act sweet.

Cadmus had already told her how vast her magic was; any spell would be turned into a weapon of mass destruction.

"For you, my dear princess, you will train your magical control," Cadmus said, and reaching into his bag, he pulled out a gold coin. Tossing the coin to the princess, Daenerys caught it and looked at Cadmus in confusion.

"Try to put a little magic into the coin," Cadmus said with a playful smile on his lips.

Daenerys obeyed and, despite being a total novice, managed to control the magic within her. The moment she injected magic into the coin, the gold coin began to rise and fall extremely fast—so fast that it left mirror images behind and in front.

When Daenerys stopped injecting magic, the coin landed gently in her hand.

"The first step of your training is to make this coin rise and fall slowly and steadily while you personally control the entire process," Cadmus said with a smile, looking at Daenerys's face, which turned somewhat grim at his words.

"First part?" Daenerys asked in a somewhat sad tone.

"Exactly, there are two more parts," Cadmus replied with a smile.

Ignoring the princess, who was sad and resentful of the training, Cadmus looked at Gaemon and said with a smile, "As for you, let's start with the basics by awakening your magic."

"Yes, Professor." Gaemon was a polite boy despite his shyness.

Cadmus approached the prince and touched his shoulder; a large amount of magical energy was deposited into the prince. The magic inside Gaemon felt the foreign magical energy and awakened to fight the invasion, but before a struggle could occur, Cadmus's magical energy withdrew as quickly as it had appeared.

"Unlike Daenerys, you are much easier to handle," Cadmus said with a smile. Daenerys was essentially different from Gaemon. Gaemon's magic was like paper, while Daenerys's magic was like a reinforced steel plate, difficult even to move.

"How do you feel?" Cadmus asked in an amused tone, seeing Gaemon's wonder-filled expression.

"It's a strange feeling, as if there's a long thread running through my body," Gaemon said in a slightly uncertain tone. The feeling of magic flowing through his body was particularly clear to him; after all, he hadn't had that feeling before.

"Gaemon, before we begin our training, I have to tell you something." Cadmus sat back down on the sofa. Daenerys, who was playing with the coin in her hand, also sat down beside Cadmus. If Gaemon hadn't been present, she would have sat on his lap without a shadow of a doubt.

"The path of magic is a process of self-discovery and exploration," Cadmus said in a calm tone. "Do you understand what I mean by that?"

Although Cadmus believed knowledge was everyone's right, he wouldn't give away all of his knowledge. At the same time, he also wanted to see how magic would flourish with only the basics given to the mages of this world.

"The professor will only teach me the basics," Gaemon replied in a respectful tone. He wasn't surprised by Cadmus's words. He had already assumed as much; after all, it was already a miracle that Cadmus had taught the basics to people. The core Magical Heritage would never be passed to those outside House Peverell.

As a member of the high nobility, Gaemon understood the preciousness of knowledge more than anyone. Still, he was satisfied to have a solid basic knowledge that would help him explore magic safely.

"Remember, magic is the reflection of your will and determination to change the world around you."

"There is no limit to magic, only the limit of your own imagination."
