Chapter 42 - Chapter 41 - The Burning of Duskendale

Moments before the Black Magic Spell - Fiendfyre.

Cadmus, mounted on Mitra, flew over the city in circular movements. With his hair fluttering in the wind, he looked down and saw a sea of people walking in the streets, but looking closely, Cadmus noticed they were not people, but Zombies and Ghouls.

There were at least fifty thousand of these monsters, all transformed from a small number of zombies and ghouls, which spread through the city like a plague.

Frowning, the number was higher than he expected, showing that the city suffered heavy casualties. What happened to the city guards was a mystery at the moment. After all, even if Lord Renfred was dead or taken hostage, the city guards could still operate normally, but there were no guards on the wall, which was both good and bad news.

The good news was that the gates could not be opened by zombies and ghouls; the bad news was that things became even more complicated. Even if it was no longer such an important city, the number of guards reached five hundred.

Looking towards Dun Fort, the Home of House Rykker, Cadmus did not hesitate to use a slightly modified Revelio. Instead of revealing hidden things, the modified Revelio spell acted as a radar for living people.

Like a pulse of transparent blue energy, the spell spread throughout the city. Wherever the energy wave passed, it revealed some phosphorescent human outlines. It was very obvious even during the day, so Cadmus saw the number of people still alive in this city.

Seeing about fourteen thousand people, Cadmus's face sighed sadly. Duskendale's population was about seventy thousand people or something close. More than fifty thousand people died because of a conspiracy.

Cadmus had to admit something: people who want to change the world are truly cruel, capable of doing anything, even genocide, to gain more power and influence.

Letting out another sigh, Cadmus looked at Dun Fort. Under the modified Revelio Spell, the entire castle was dark and lifeless, meaning there were no living people in the castle.

"Is it possible that Balon has a way to kill so many people silently? Is there a mage in the city?" Cadmus murmured in a calm tone, his dark green eyes staring at the castle with a deep gaze.

Looking away from the castle, Cadmus looked at the city below him and spoke in a calm tone.

"I am Cadmus Peverell, Lord of Harrenhal and Court Mage to King Rhaegar I Targaryen."

"From this moment on, all survivors must stay indoors and not leave."

After seeing the number of victims, Cadmus, who planned to use Mitra's flames to purge the city, decided to use one of the most powerful black magics on the planet. Whoever the mage was who killed almost everyone in the city wanted an army of monsters, and he would destroy that army of monsters.

Slowly extending his hand forward, Cadmus's dark green eyes shone with a demonic blue tone. Looking with pity at the fifty thousand meters below him, all looking at him with a hungry and bestial gaze.

The spell left Cadmus's lips.

"Fiendfyre."

In the next moment, a fleeting light shone in the air before a gigantic wave of blue fire descended from the sky like a divine punishment. From Cadmus's hand, a torrent of fire poured non-stop over the city.

Mitra flew almost horizontally around the city, giving Cadmus a complete view of the city without blind spots.

The blue fire took the form of a blue fire serpent kilometers long. It descended from the sky beautifully, but extremely deadly. Even though it was daytime, the world seemed to have a second sun in the sky; it became extremely bright.

Reaching the ground, the pale blue flames swept the environment, swallowing everything in front of them. The fire serpent advanced through the city streets, letting out a roar similar to a dragon's. All Ghouls, Zombies, and anything else were reduced to ashes the moment they touched the flames.

In the air, with his hair fluttering in the wind, Cadmus's face was illuminated by the flames that continued to pour from his hand. Looking at the streets covered in blue flames, Cadmus's eyes were calm.

He was not an idiot who used Fiendfyre in a place full of wooden objects like a certain Slytherin member who could not even control his own spell.

Ceasing the magic, cutting off the magical energy, Cadmus's hand stopped pouring flames, and the mage concentrated on controlling the blue demonic flames. Like a maestro controlling an orchestra, the pale blue flames were successfully controlled.

However, as the flames were sentient, Cadmus felt an uncontrollable resistance, but his face did not change at all. "Obey." He murmured to himself as he enslaved the flames without any hesitation.

The flames let out a roar full of sadness and were forced to stop destroying everything in front of them and only attack the monsters in the streets and nothing else. For a demonic and elemental being, this was worse than torturing it.

However, the flames had no choice at that moment; they were forced to act as something they never were in their existence.

To save the souls of these people, even if it meant destroying them.

Below, in the city, Oberyn abruptly moved away from the window as he watched the pale blue fire serpent the size of houses pass through the street where he was staying.

"Holy Shit!!!" Oberyn could not help but curse as he watched the apocalyptic scene with horror and fear while moving even further away from the window. Prince Martell was not a cowardly man; on the contrary, he was a veteran who had seen all the human evil in his life.

But what was before him truly deeply impacted him. Not just him, everyone present was numb and full of fear at what was happening.

He really saw a man mounted on a huge bird burning an entire city with pale blue flames. If he were not seeing it personally, he would not even want to believe that such a fantastical story existed in life.

"He's a god, right?" Tyene murmured with her eyes lost in thought. No one said anything about her words. She was right; in their eyes, the man called Cadmus Peverell was a god. No human had such great power in the world.

"Uncle, are mages powerful?" Arianne asked in a slightly trembling tone, full of admiration for the figure flying around the city.

"I've never seen one so powerful, but at the Temple of the Immortals in the Free City of Qarth, I saw a mage controlling a shadow the size of an elephant." Sitting on the bed, holding his lover's hand, Prince Oberyn spoke in a confused and incredulous tone.

Oberyn considered himself someone who had traveled to many places, but even the places he had set foot in did not have such a powerful mage. He presumed that not even the Rectoress of the Academy of Magic for Women, Tissaia de Vries, was as powerful as the mage who was burning the city at that moment.

(Note: Aretuza (girls only), Ban Ard (boys only), are located on the Continent of Sothoryos.)

After the disbelief and fear came relief in everyone's mind.

"We are finally safe." Arianne said with a smile. She definitely did not want to die, at least not before she was eighty and surrounded by a large number of sons and daughters.

There were relaxed and happy smiles on the lips of everyone present; this feeling of security was something you only valued when you lost it.

"When will we be able to meet this mage?" Tyene asked with a tone of expectation.

"Do you already want to get into his bed?" Arianne asked with a laugh, making the other women laugh too.

"She wants to thank him with her body, the cliché of the knight saving the innocent maiden." Obara said with a sarcastic tone.

Arianne laughed at Obara's words and, noticing that Tyene was getting angry, she stopped laughing and looked out the window. In her view, the enormous bird flew around the city with its huge wingspan. She had never seen such a large and beautiful bird in her life. The feathers seemed to be burning with hot embers.

"What is it like to fly in the sky?" Arianne asked herself. "It must be pleasant, free from all worries and problems."
