Seeing Wanda's confused expression, Natasha nodded gently.
It seemed that Wanda had not yet obtained that ability.
The video continued to play.
Inside the screen.
"Why don't we just kill him?"
Seeing that Wanda only used her scarlet magic to control Tony Stark's mind, Pietro asked in confusion.
"Killing him is too easy for him. I want to torture him with the thing he fears most in his heart!"
As soon as the words fell, Tony Stark stood frozen.
Under Wanda's scarlet magic, Tony suddenly raised his head.
Then he saw the wormhole from the Battle of New York open above him.
A huge Chitauri Leviathan opened its massive, sharp-toothed mouth and lunged at him.
The sudden vision frightened Tony so much that he stumbled back. Before he could react, more and more Leviathans flew over him.
Beneath those massive beasts, the bodies of the Avengers lay scattered.
Hulk collapsed on the ground, twitching faintly for the last time, while Natasha lay dead, staring blankly with gray eyes.
Clint, covered in blood, leaned against a stone wall, unmoving, and Thor had fallen powerlessly with his eyes closed.
Even Steve Rogers' shield was broken in half.
Seeing this, Tony Stark felt dizzy, his breath tightening.
Instinctively, he knelt beside Steve, trying to check his pulse.
But Steve suddenly opened his eyes, his tone filled with urgency and blame: "You… could have saved us…"
After speaking, Steve fell forward, still holding Tony's hand, his eyes turning gray as blood trickled from his nose.
"Hu…hu…hu…"
Looking at the dead Avengers, Tony's breathing grew sharp and frantic.
A crushing wave of guilt and helplessness swallowed him whole.
"Why… didn't you try harder…"
The accusing voice echoed in Tony's mind. He raised his head toward the Leviathans.
Countless steel beasts poured through the wormhole, and beyond it was the blue planet he had tried so desperately to protect.
Tony suddenly snapped out of the illusion, heart pounding violently.
Even Wanda, who was controlling the illusion, froze in shock.
She hadn't expected Tony Stark's deepest fear to be this.
Tony, still shaken, became even more serious.
His eyes fixed on the Mind Scepter, full of resolve.
As he reached out with his armored glove and lifted the scepter, Pietro whispered, "We're just letting him take it?"
Wanda smiled. "This is the beginning of the Avengers breaking apart."
Seeing this scene in the video, Steve and Tony exchanged looks.
"Is that… the most terrifying thing in your heart?" Steve asked.
Tony thought for a few seconds, then shook his head. "It should be the most terrifying thing in my heart after the battle in New York."
"After all, I saw alien civilizations and terrifying monsters."
"So I'm worried the Earth might be invaded again."
Steve nodded in understanding.
Nick Fury added, "Wanda in the video just said it—this is the beginning of the Avengers' split."
"Maybe this is the agreement they kept mentioning in the last video!"
Everyone fell silent, thinking.
"I am Groot!"
Groot suddenly spoke, and everyone turned to Thor.
"Groot says those steel monsters are the Chitauri—but the Chitauri are one of the weakest races in the universe!"
Hearing Thor's translation, everyone was stunned.
The Chitauri are the weakest race?
Then wasn't Earth even weaker?
Thinking of this, Tony Stark suddenly looked at Wanda.
She had forced him to watch his deepest fear.
Sensing Tony's stare, Wanda glared back, then ignored him and kept watching the video.
The video continued.
Inside the Quinjet.
"Have we found anything on the super-powered twins?" Steve Rogers asked Maria Hill as he stepped off the aircraft, tablet in hand.
"We found something. The twins are named Wanda and Pietro. They became orphans at ten. Their parents were killed by a bomb."
"Although Sokovia isn't special, its geographic location is important. So it's always been in conflict."
"What abilities do they have?"
"Pietro has hyper-metabolism and gigabit thermal balance. Wanda has neuronal space manipulation, plus induction and mental control."
"So one is very fast and the other is very strange."
On the tablet, Wanda and Pietro stood in a protesting crowd.
Steve nodded. "They'll definitely show up again."
"That's right, Captain Rogers. The file says they voluntarily joined Hydra to be experimented on by Strucker, and obtained their abilities through the Mind Scepter."
As Steve stepped into the elevator, Hill shrugged. "It's really strange."
Before the doors closed, Steve replied, "Yes, very strange. What kind of person lets German scientists run experiments on them during wartime?"
Hill hurriedly reminded him, "This isn't wartime, Captain!"
As the elevator doors shut, Steve said firmly, "But they're in wartime."
In the theater.
Watching this scene, Steve subconsciously turned toward Wanda beside Natasha, a hint of recognition in his eyes.
Seventy years ago, he fought for victory and to end the war.
That was why he agreed to Dr. Erskine's experiment.
And now Wanda and Pietro were the same.
The video clearly stated that Sokovia had been in chaos for years.
Maybe others didn't understand why they volunteered to become test subjects.
But Steve did.
The others, however, were focused on the Mind Scepter.
Hill said Wanda and Pietro gained their abilities from it.
Could the Mind Scepter grant extraordinary abilities to others?
And this meant they attacked the Sokovia Hydra base after the Battle of New York—
because the scepter had been brought to Earth by Loki.
Seeing Wanda's tense expression, Natasha whispered a few comforting words beside her.
