"We might not survive tomorrow."
Aria said it quietly, and Marcus came up behind her and wrapped his arms around her waist.
"I know," he said against her hair.
They'd spent the entire night planning their approach to the Red Hook factory, and every scenario they mapped out ended with at least one of them dead, but leaving Karen to die wasn't an option Marcus could live with.
"I don't want to die without telling you something," Aria said, turning in his arms to face him. "Something I should have said weeks ago but kept putting off because I was scared."
"You're not scared of anything," Marcus said with a slight smile.
"I'm scared of how much I love you and how much it would destroy me to lose you, and I'm scared that tomorrow one of us won't come back."
Marcus pulled her closer and kissed her forehead. "Then let's not think about tomorrow for a few hours, and let's just be here together right now."
