Ten minutes earlier…
"What did you say, young man?" Clara Kleith planted her hands on her hips in front of the annex door as Rodrique blocked her way.
"Mr. Kingston told you to wait here. He will give me a signal later when he allows the people in the annex to enter the main house." Rodrique delivered Rafael's order in a much softer version. He had already polished the original words. Loyalty to Rafael meant filtering his master's bluntness. If he didn't, Rafael would collect enemies faster than he breathed.
"What? That brat has no manners. How dare he treat his only grandmother like this? No. I'll see him whenever I want." She shoved Rodrique, but he didn't move. The annex door was already locked from the inside.
"Wife… let's just wait here. I'm sure he will come soon." Mr. Auburn held his wife's arm gently.
"No! I've waited long enough. Hasn't he avoided us for years already? That agreement no longer applies."
