Viona's POV
A week passed too fast.
The preparations for returning to Liechester drained every bit of my energy. I had to hand over all my responsibilities, and it wasn't as easy as it looked. Rafael also had to appoint one of his subordinates as his replacement as the clinic's chief doctor.
So for the past week, we barely had any deep conversations. We were swallowed by our own responsibilities.
It made me forget, temporarily, about the accusation that was still unresolved. I didn't intend to overlook it. There was a quiet regret gnawing at me for not asking Rafael directly that day.
But the fear that it might be true, the fear that I wouldn't be able to believe his words, kept pushing me back every time I thought of asking. I should have asked sooner. I couldn't let this turn into a knot in my chest.
The thought resurfaced today because I needed to give severance pay to the house helper and the kids' nannies. Today was their last day.
