Rafael's POV
My little princess tiptoed toward me, clutching some small red envelopes. My chest tightened, and a grin spread instinctively at the way she addressed me.
She moved hesitantly, stepping on her tiny toes, pausing every few steps to glance left and right with a wary expression, exactly like a squirrel afraid of getting caught stealing nuts.
"Come on, follow me," she whispered.
She gripped my index finger and pulled me behind the kitchen wall.
Then she waved her tiny hand at me, signaling for me to crouch down. I did, squatting beside her, amused by how naturally comfortable she was around me.
Most of my child patients usually looked wary, even scared, whenever they met me. I never understood why. I always put on my carefully rehearsed friendly face when dealing with those little gremlins.
So I really should be grateful that Vae liked me right from our first meeting.
"Uncle knight father, do you see Roey?" She blinked slowly, hopeful as she asked me.
