Chapter 70 - A Stupid Sparkly Demigoddess

[Blood Diary Entry]

Annabeth was still visibly nervous, somewhat unsure about mine and Rebekah's presence.

I did my best to look as friendly as possible, which wasn't exactly hard since I'm a child—it's actually harder for me to look threatening, if I don't shift that is.

I hunched over a bit so that I would be of the same height as her. Even though the difference in age between us should be around a year or less, after absorbing Caine, I was much taller than any kid of my age had any business being. "Hello! My name is Darian. What's yours?" I asked while I smiled at her.

"I don't care what your name is, you should just fu-" The ill-mannered punk girl started marching towards me, and using my well-polished social radar, I guessed she was going to start cussing like a sailor. Though she stopped dead in her tracks as she heard the sound of my knuckles popping as I clenched my fists.

I looked at her, a frown on my face, as my eyes glowed bright red.

Thalia and Luke swallowed dryly and stepped back instinctively.

Turning my attention back to the frightened child in front of me—I know it's ironic of me to say that… But oh well.

"I'm- I'm Annabeth. Annabeth Chase." She stammered in the beginning, but she seemed to find her courage mid-sentence.

"That's a beautiful name, fitting for such a charming little lady," Rebekah said as she approached.

Annabeth blushed a bit, but she appears to have liked the compliment since she is beaming like a morning sun.

I chuckled amusedly.

"And what's your name, lady?" Annabeth asked.

Rebekah giggled. "My, my, aren't you a polite one?" She gave me a sideways glance. "Different from someone else I know."

"Oy! I am polite, thank you very much." I said while a vein popped on my forehead.

"Is that so? Because if I recall correctly, I think I can picture quite clearly someone calling me a stalker." She said with a playfully dry expression.

"You're imagining things." I shrugged nonchalantly.

Her expression became darker and her eyes colder. "So… You're calling me senile? Or perhaps insane?"

Cold sweat started dripping from my back. "Uhm… No, absolutely not! How could that be? You're the picture of perfection!" I said while raising my hands.

Her expression did a complete turn, as she smiled lovingly.

"Hahaha! You two are so funny." Annabeth, who was watching us, started giggling merrily, clutching her stomach as small tears started forming in the corner of her eyes.

Luke seemed to relax a bit, finding us a bit less threatening now, but Thalia was still behaving like a grumpy feline.

Annebeth looked between Rebekah and me a couple of times before her cheery voice sounded again. "Excuse me, but you still haven't said your name."

Rebekah blushed almost imperceptibly. She cleared her throat awkwardly. "My name is Rebekah. Pleasure to meet you, Annabeth."

Thalia grumbled. "Just Rebekah? The blonde princess isn't going to grace us with her illustrious full name?"

Rebekah's expression became a bit unfriendly for a split second, but only I managed to see the shift, since it happened in the span of less than a second.

I can't help but grimace at how stupid the sparkly demigoddess is turning out to be…

I—a child younger than her—thrashed her like a ragdoll, I made it quite clear that I could have killed her at the blink of an eye. Though not explicitly, it was still a rather obvious message… Though I can't say I expected much better of a spawn of Zeus.

Her father isn't known for being terribly bright, apart from all the lightning and doom that is.

Still, she pissed off Rebekah when she attacked me unprovoked, and now she is just plain insulting her.

Quite amazing to see the sheer lack of self-preservation instincts of this one.

Rebekah ignored her and turned back to Annabeth, who was eyeing her with curiosity. "My full name is somewhat troublesome, so for now… Just Rebekah will do."

I raised an eyebrow, wondering why it was that she was bothering to hide her name…

She noticed the look, but she just shook her head.

Annabeth nodded. "Are you his mother?" She asked while pointing at me.

Rebekah and I coughed awkwardly. Caught entirely off guard by the innocent question.

"Uhm- I… Eh…" Rebekah seemed unsure of how to answer the question, so I decided to step in.

"She is not my mother." I shook my head.

"Your sister then?" Annabeth tilted her head.

"No. Not my sister either."

"Cousin?"

"Haha. No, not that either," I looked over at the vampire. "She is a very special person to me. Confusing though things may be sometimes… I can't see a life that she isn't a part of."

"Darian…" She smiled sweetly.

"Blergh! This is so sappy that I think I'm going to barf." Said the contemptible creature that seemed as if she were desperate to lessen the worth of her own life by the second. "Luke," she called the boy, who went deadly pale at being involved in her shenanigans. "Seems that just looking like a bimbo wasn't enough for the princess, I think she also likes being a ped-"

My face darkened, and my blood boiled. I burst forward so violently that a sonorous boom followed my trajectory. I stopped in front of the overly talkative demigoddess, and the wind of the sudden stop slammed against her full force, making her spiky hair fly around wildly.

Her words stopped as I placed a single claw against her treacherous throat, and blood seeped out at the tip of my claws as I pressed them on her flesh.

She looked at me with frightened eyes; her heartbeat was all over the place.

I came closer to her while still keeping my claw against her. I whispered in her ear. "You speak like that about Rebekah again, and I will kill you, and then I will apologize to Annabeth."

"She will hate you," Thalia answered in a shaky voice.

"I couldn't care less… I don't know you guys, and the wish to do so is diminishing by the second. Opposed to that, I will spend eternity alongside that gorgeous woman you insist on insulting." My voice came as a low growl. "See from my point of view how that isn't a really hard decision." I pressed the claw a bit tighter against her skin. "Now… Are you going to give me a reason to rip you apart, or are you going to behave like a functional human being?"

She nodded, but no words came out.

I distanced myself from her, wiping my hands as if I had touched something foul.

Rebekah, who heard the entire convo, smiled brightly, her gaze was intense, though I could say mine was somewhat similar.

Annabeth looked at the whole situation with a puzzled expression, not really understanding much.

Luke, though, walked to Thalia, and instead of comforting her—which would be expected from an infatuated boy—he instead slapped the back of Thalia's head. Earning himself an annoyed expression from her. He just glared at her, conveying through his eyes just how stupid what she just did was.

I clapped. "Now, where were we?"
