Chapter 321 - Vision for the Future

Slade was wearing a mask, so his expression couldn't be seen. He knew her words were mostly joking, but there was a serious element to them. He nodded immediately, abandoned the motorcycle, and followed her slowly toward the city center.

His thinking was simple and smart. The squad had entered the city in a scattered formation. If he was unlucky enough to be surrounded, even with his exceptional skills, it would be troublesome. Following this yellow-clad person whose limits he couldn't gauge was a very wise choice.

Thea could guess most of what he was thinking. If he wanted to follow, let him follow. Now that her strength had grown increasingly overwhelming, Thea wasn't so concerned about so-called memories. Slade was impressive in every respect and had great charisma. If she could recruit him as a subordinate, he would be an extremely strong helper.

Bang! Bang! Pistol and rifle shots rang out simultaneously. Two gunmen jumped out from the front left and front right at the same time, opening fire fiercely at the two.

Just as Slade wanted to dodge, he saw Thea casually manifest two yellow barriers, blocking the bullets effortlessly.

The two gunmen were a bit stunned, wanting to see clearly what this thing was, but they met Thea's gaze head-on.

Now increasingly proficient in the use of fear, Thea could use the Eye of Horus to inject fear emotions directly into the opponent's mind at will. This wasn't a spell; from certain angles, it was more like an instinct. Digging deeper, her eyes could now be called the Eyes of Fear of Horus.

The two gunmen collapsed directly to the ground. Slade showed no mercy, leaping forward and finishing them off easily with one slash each.

"Your ability is truly strange. Anyone who sees you is affected?" Slade asked, harboring unknown thoughts.

"They—and even you—aren't really seeing me, just the fear inside their own hearts."

These words sounded very pretentious, but Slade's worldview was very solid. He felt these words were too idealistic and metaphysical.

"This is an illusion technique, right...?" He was still trying to use things he could understand to explain the mysterious stuff about Thea.

"This is purely emotional power. Illusion techniques are relatively more grandiose; this is not an illusion." As she spoke, Thea also gave him a quick demonstration of her speed. Among all the Lanterns, the Yellow Ring was the fastest. Slade only felt a blur before his eyes; Thea had already gone back and forth several times. Lying between the two were four or five criminals in black clothes and fully armed soldiers.

"This is?..." Did that take even two seconds? Slade sized up the people carefully. Indeed, they were all enemies A.R.G.U.S. wanted to eliminate, identical to the two he had just chopped down.

"Looking at you, you've been enhanced too, right? Human modification?" Thea clapped the dust off her hands and asked casually.

"It's a human enhancement serum..." Slade answered very cautiously. It wasn't hard to see that his physical abilities exceeded human limits, but he wasn't prepared to share detailed content.

So this guy still injected Mirakuru? Did he leave Lian Yu early? Thea felt her guess was mostly correct. This person was very self-centered, unlike Oliver, who was such a saint. He wouldn't save people just because he saw them suffering; his moral character wasn't that high. Because of his departure, Oliver still didn't escape the fate of falling into Amanda's hands.

The Court of Owls' eyes and ears in Hong Kong had also passed along some news. Their reports mentioned A.R.G.U.S. having three agents fight American extremists in Hong Kong. Barring any accidents, these three were Thea's older brother Oliver and the Yamashiro couple.

You could say Slade and the Japanese woman codenamed Katana had crossed paths with Oliver one after the other, but neither of them knew the other. Fate was truly wonderful.

"What are you laughing at? Do you think my power is too weak to catch your eye?" Slade thought Thea was mocking him.

"No, no, no, you're too sensitive. I appreciate you. You have brains and boldness; you know what you need. But your vision is a bit narrow. You only see this tiny patch of ground in front of you. You don't know how big the universe is, how many intelligent lives there are. You only see Earth; you only see those dollars."

Thea's words were blunt, but Slade ignored her sarcasm. He grasped the core of Thea's words: "Beyond Earth? Are there really aliens?"

"What do you think?" Thea retorted with a half-smile.

The atmosphere between the two was a bit dull.

As Thea's strength increased, she urgently needed to make her own voice heard on the world level. Her public hero identity couldn't be discarded, but she also needed some helpers in the dark to do things inconvenient for her.

The Court of Owls had many internal contradictions, and since she could only remote-control them, their help to Thea was growing more and more limited. She urgently needed some subordinates who could help her do things, but she also had to prevent these people from biting back. The method she thought of was the Yellow Lantern Corps.

Thea envisioned recruiting ten subordinates. Among them, three with stronger power would directly accept rings from the Yellow Lantern Corps. The current candidates were Deadman and Grodd, with one more undecided.

The remaining seven would serve as guards and enforcers on Earth! They would accept rings crafted by Diana in imitation of Thea's Yellow Lantern Ring, possessing some abilities of the main ring and controlled by Thea. Among these seven, the first current candidate was Slade Wilson, "Deathstroke."

Slade's martial arts were considered good among earthlings, but in Sinestro's eyes, they were nothing. Conversely, Grodd was much more powerful. Long-range, zero-cooldown, zero-consumption mind control—without prior precautions, few could withstand the gorilla's mind control.

Of course, this was just a plan. Thea needed the absolute elite. If Deathstroke wasn't willing, she wouldn't force him. After all, there were too many candidates in this world. To gain power, there were plenty of people crying and begging to cling to her.

Slade didn't refuse her recruitment, but he didn't agree either. He needed to carefully weigh the pros and cons.

Swish, swish! Sounds rang out. A silver-white metal boomerang flew toward the two. Thea manifested a yellow barrier to block the opponent's sneak attack.

"It's Captain Boomerang. I'll deal with him!" Slade said, then chased after Captain Boomerang, who was preparing to flee after the failed sneak attack.

This target was just right for him. He definitely couldn't beat the two supernatural guys. Killer Croc looked over three meters tall with infinite strength; he didn't want to waste that effort either. Captain Boomerang was just an ordinary person who could play with darts. Taking his head back to report would count as completing this mission.

Slade left alone. Thea continued deeper into the city center. Before long, she heard continuous gunshots. She looked up and saw Deadshot engaging in a shootout alone against Rick Flag and seven or eight other gunmen.

This guy handled firearms with ridiculous ease. He was clearly just one man, but his firepower was extremely fierce. The high-power silenced pistols on his wrists fired violently, even managing to suppress an entire group by himself. Thea watched for a couple of seconds and then stopped paying attention.
