Chapter 28 - End

Ch 28

The silver-and-black recall portal deposited Dev and Agent Vex into the central archway of the Ebonguard Hub.

Selina was waiting. She stood with her arms crossed, her aristocratic face set in its usual mask of cold efficiency. But the moment her eyes flicked to the Faction status panel floating beside Dev's shoulder, her posture shattered.

[MISSION STATUS: AGENT VEX RETRIEVED (SUCCESS)]

[HOST STATUS: LEVEL 10 AGENT]

[SOUL SPACE: 1x LEVEL 8 SLAVE (WARDEN KRAVEN), 2x LEVEL 3 HULKS, 33x CHAFF]

[UNALLOCATED SOUL-ESSENCE: 2,200]

Selina's jaw tightened, her pale grey eyes wide with a mixture of terror and utter, unadulterated awe. "You... you didn't just extract her. You slaughtered the Black-Site... and enslaved Kraven?"

Vex stepped past Dev, her short white hair disheveled, her sharp elven eyes still wide from what she had witnessed. "He didn't just slaughter them, Selina," Vex said, her voice unusually quiet, all her usual arrogance completely drained. "He walked through their defenses like they were made of paper. He commands a dead army."

Dev ignored them both. His mind was a cold, humming engine focused on a single objective: optimization.

He opened his status interface and dumped the entire 2,200 Soul-Essence into his stat pool.

[ALLOCATING 2,200 SOUL-ESSENCE...]

[LEVEL UP! LEVEL 10 -> LEVEL 12]

[STAT POINTS ALLOCATED:]

[STR: 11 -> 15]

[CON: 10 -> 14]

[AGI: 11 -> 15]

[SPI: 39 -> 45]

[RES: 33 -> 40]

[SOUL-BODY SYNCHRONIZATION RATE: 10.0% -> 15.0%]

A violent, euphoric surge of raw, dense power rushed through Dev's soul-form. His [SPI: 45] [Spatial Awareness] expanded exponentially, feeling every fracture in the Hub's floor, every pulse of energy in the multidimensional void. His physical connection back to his human body vibrated with a terrifying new weight—15% Sync Rate.

A crimson alarm prompt suddenly flared across his vision—not from the Nexus, but from the real-world burner phone sitting in his pocket back on Earth.

[REAL-WORLD SIGNAL: URGENT MESSAGE RECEIVED (PHONE: ANYA)]

[TEXT: CHEEL HAS CROSSED THE RIVER. 50+ MEN. HEAVY WEAPONS. THEY ARE HUNTING US. WEST INDUSTRIAL PARK IS SURROUNDED.]

Dev's cold, [SPI: 45] mind processed the data instantly.

The Level 0 world was calling. Cheel, the "Badmosh" of East Delhi, had finally moved to take Kilo's vacant throne and crush Anya's new network. They thought they were starting a gang war. They thought they were fighting for territory.

They had no idea what was coming back for them.

"Agent Vex is secured," Dev said, his dead, flat voice echoing through the cold Hub. "My contract for this cycle is complete."

Before Selina or Vex could speak, Dev willed the force-recall. His soul-form dissolved into a blinding vortex of black-and-gold mist, tearing out of the Ebonguard Hub and plunging back toward Earth.

11:45 PM. West Industrial Park, Delhi.

The night air was thick with the foul stench of garbage, cold river mud, and burning diesel. Heavy rain poured from the pitch-black sky, hammering mercilessly against the rusting corrugated iron roofs of the abandoned shipping yard.

Inside the central warehouse—the same graveyard where Kilo had died—Anya was pinned behind a overturned metal shipping container. Blood ran from a deep cut above her eye, staining her shaved head. Her hand trembled as she held her cheap 9mm pistol, her last three bullets remaining.

Outside, the engines of a dozen heavy Royal Enfield motorcycles and black SUVs roared like hungry beasts. Flashlights cut through the rain, pinning the ruined warehouse in a blinding, crisscrossing grid of harsh white light.

Fifty men, armed with iron rods, heavy machetes, and automatic handguns, had completely encircled the perimeter.

Standing in the center of the yard under a large black umbrella held by a subordinate was "Cheel"—the legendary boss of East Delhi. He was an older man in his late 40s, wearing an immaculate white kurta that remained pristine despite the mud. His eyes were small, sharp, and predatory, like the hawk he was named after.

"Anya!" Cheel's voice boomed over a megaphoned loudspeaker, echoing off the iron walls. "Kilo was a fool, but he was a businessman! You replaced him with a ghost? A 6-foot schoolboy?"

The fifty thugs erupted into cruel, mocking laughter.

"Show me this 'monster'!" Cheel sneered, spitting into the mud. "Bring him out! Or I burn this whole sector with you inside it! West Delhi belongs to East Delhi now!"

A short distance away, huddled in the dark shadow of an overturned truck, was Mina.

She had followed the rumors. She had tracked the address from the burner phone notes she had obsessively taken. Her hyper-analytical mind had driven her to see the truth of the "impostor." But now, trapped in the middle of an armed syndicate invasion, her logic had yielded to pure, paralyzing terror. She pressed her back against the wet metal, her hands clamped over her mouth, watching fifty heavily armed gang members prepare to commit a massacre.

"Last chance, Anya!" Cheel shouted, raising his hand. Five men stepped forward with heavy gasoline canisters, preparing to douse the building. "Count to three!"

"One!"

The rain continued to pour.

"Two!"

A heavy, suffocating weight suddenly settled over the entire industrial park.

It wasn't a sound. It wasn't a wind. It was a physical, soul-crushing pressure that made the temperature drop twenty degrees in a single microsecond. The heavy rain falling from the sky seemed to slow down mid-air, turning into slush.

The fifty thugs stopped laughing. Their hearts began to hammer against their ribs with a sudden, primal dread they couldn't comprehend. The dogs barking in the distant alleys went instantly, dead silent.

"What... what is that?" one of Cheel's lieutenants stammered, his shaking hand dropping his flashlight into the mud.

From the dark, unlit entrance of the main road, a single figure walked through the rain.

He wore no coat. He wore no armor. Just his torn, wet school jacket.

Dev walked slowly into the harsh crossfire of white flashlights. His long, 6-foot frame moved with an unnatural, impossible grace—the 15% Sync Rate of his [STR: 15] [CON: 14] [AGI: 15] making every step ring like a funeral bell against the wet concrete.

His [SPI: 45] eyes, glowing with a faint, terrifying coldness in the dark, swept over the fifty men.

[FACTION: CHEEL SYNDICATE (HOSTILE, LEVEL 0)]

[THREAT LEVEL: ZERO]

[RESULT: EXTINCTION]

Mina, hiding behind the truck, stared at him. Her breath hitched. He looked taller. His jawline was carved from granite, his shoulders broader, his posture that of an ancient, absolute monarch walking into a pen of cattle.

Cheel narrowed his eyes, stepping out from beneath his umbrella. "You... you're the kid? The ghost?"

Dev didn't answer. He stopped thirty feet from Cheel.

"You brought fifty insects to my territory," Dev said. His voice wasn't loud, but it cut through the howling wind and rain with terrifying, crystalline clarity, echoing inside the very skulls of every man present. "You distracted me from my work."

Cheel's face twisted in rage. "Kill him! SHOOT HIM NOW!"

Ten men raised their automatic pistols and rifles, pulling their triggers simultaneously.

BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!

Mina screamed, closing her eyes.

To Dev's [AGI: 15] and [SPI: 45] senses, the 9mm and 7.62mm lead slugs were moving through the thick air like floating insects.

He didn't even bother dodging.

With a subtle, 15% Synced movement, he shifted his torso two inches. Three bullets grazed his jacket, pinging harmlessly off the air around his dense [CON: 14] aura. Two more struck his chest directly—and flattened into useless, dull lead buttons against his super-dense skin before dropping into the mud.

Dead silence fell over the yard.

The gunmen stared at their weapons, then at Dev's unblemished chest, their minds shattering into raw, screaming madness.

"My turn," Dev said flatly.

He raised his right hand to the sky.

He didn't just activate a minor skill. With his new 15% Sync Rate, Dev manifested his [Eternal Bond] directly onto the surface of Earth.

KRA-BOOOOOOM!

The black sky split open. A massive, fifty-foot-wide tear in reality erupted in the middle of the industrial yard—a roaring, vortex of deep black and royal gold energy that sucked the rain and air directly into its void.

The fifty gang members fell to their knees, screaming, clutching their ears as the cosmic pressure hit them.

And then, the Legion stepped out.

First came the 33 Chaff monsters—Ash Ghouls shrieking with horrifying speed, Magma Skitterers hissing as the rain vaporized against their lava carapaces into clouds of superheated steam.

Next came the two ten-foot-tall Lava Hulks, their massive obsidian boots cracking the asphalt as they stepped into the real world, radiating volcanic heat that instantly dried the mud for fifty yards.

And finally, stepping out from the center of the vortex, came Warden Kraven.

The Level 8 Commander was a seven-foot spectral titan of dark obsidian and glowing crimson runes, wielding his massive double-headed plasma warhammer. His soulless, enslaved eyes burned with absolute obedience to his master.

Cheel fell backward into the mud, his white kurta ruined, his face a mask of pure, unadulterated horror. He wet himself, his mind completely broken by the nightmare before him. "Bhagwan... Oh God... What are you...? WHAT ARE YOU?!"

Dev looked down at the weeping "Badmosh" of East Delhi.

"I am the new management," Dev said.

He gave a single, cold mental command:

[ERASE THEM.]

What followed was not a war. It was an absolute, mechanical extermination.

Warden Kraven raised his massive warhammer and brought it down into the center of the yard.

THOOM!

A shockwave of pure kinetic and thermal force exploded outward, launching three SUVs into the air and pulverizing twenty gang members instantly. The Lava Hulks charged through the remaining ranks like living tanks, tearing metal, bone, and flesh apart. The Ash Ghouls and Skitterers swarmed the fleeing men, their shrieks cutting through the night until every gunshot, every scream, and every plea for mercy was violently silenced.

It took forty-five seconds.

The fifty-man syndicate of East Delhi was gone. Wiped from existence.

The yard was dead silent once more, save for the crackle of burning vehicle wreckage and the soft patter of rain returning to normal.

Dev gestured with his hand.

[RETURN.]

The massive black-and-gold portal flared one last time. Warden Kraven, the two Lava Hulks, and the 33 Chaff monsters dissolved into dark mist and were sucked back into Dev's [Soul Space]. The portal snapped shut, leaving only the destruction behind.

Anya slowly dragged herself out from the warehouse, her eyes wide, staring at the carnage. She dropped to her knees in front of Dev, lowering her head until her forehead touched the bloody concrete.

"Boss..." she whispered, her voice trembling with absolute, eternal devotion. "East Delhi... West Delhi... it's all yours. Command me."

"Consolidate both sides," Dev ordered, his voice cold and devoid of pity. "Take Cheel's money. Take his territory. Run it all. If anyone opposes you... tell them my name."

"Yes, Boss," Anya breathed. "Always."

Dev turned his head slightly. His [SPI: 45] [Spatial Awareness] locked onto the dark space behind the truck.

"Come out, Mina," Dev said.

Mina stepped out from the shadows. Her legs were shaking so violently she could barely stand. She looked at the ruined yard, at the blood, at Anya kneeling like a slave, and finally... at Dev.

She held her crumpled P.E. printout in her trembling hand—the piece of paper that proved he wasn't "Dev."

Dev walked up to her, his 6-foot frame towering over her small form. He didn't raise his hand. He didn't threaten her. He simply looked down into her eyes with his cold, dead, god-like gaze.

"You wanted data," Dev whispered, his voice resonating in her mind. "You wanted the truth. Now you have it."

Mina looked at the paper in her hand. Then, slowly, methodically, she let go.

The paper fell into a puddle of bloody water, dissolving beneath his boots.

"You're not an impostor," Mina whispered, tears streaming down her face, mixed with rain. "You're... you're a god."

"No," Dev said, holding her gaze until she bowed her head in complete submission. "I am the Sovereign. Keep my secret... and live."

"I... I will," she sobbed, stepping back, her silence permanently bought by absolute awe and terror.

Dev turned away from her, walking toward the high edge of the industrial park's concrete overlook, which commanded a view of the entire lit skyline of Delhi.

The rain washed the last traces of blood from his torn jacket.

He looked down at his right hand. He flexed his fingers, feeling the 15% Synced power thrumming under his skin—a power that would continue to grow with every level, every boss, every soul he conquered in the Nexus until the real world and the cosmic void were both completely under his control.

In the real world, he was the absolute, undisputed King of the underground—a shadow ruler commanding empires through his proxies, untouched and feared by all.

In the Nexus, he was the rising Sovereign—a legion-builder who had broken the rules of gods and Factions alike, destined to conquer the multiverse.

The "victim" was dead. The "Dreg" was erased.

Dev looked out over the sleeping city, his cold, piercing eyes glowing in the dark, a thin, cruel smile touching his lips.

The game was over. The reign of the Sovereign had just begun.
