"But I think there's a way to bring him back." Riveria said, making me rise from the ground.
"Really? What do I have to do?" I asked, knowing I would sacrifice anything for my little guy.
But first.
'System is what she said is true?'
[...]
'System?'
[Yep...there is.]
unknowing to me that the system was trying his hard not to laugh at me.
'So I can trust her...Wait.'
I looked at Riveria, then started to think.
"Riveria, do you have a resurrection spell?" I asked with a serious look.
"Um, yeah, something like that."
"Did you tell anyone about it?"
"No, Why?" Riveria asked, thinking something was wrong.
"Good, don't tell anyone about it, because if you do, the gods might try to eliminate you."
This caused Riveria to get confused.
Noticing her confusion, I started to explain.
"The gods descended to the lower world to be 'entertained' and to live like mortals, but they retained one absolute authority: the management of souls. In their world, when a person dies, their soul returns to the heavens to be cleansed and reincarnated.
If you can resurrect others is essentially "stealing" souls back from the gods' domain. It challenges the gods' status as the ultimate arbiters of life and death.
The gods value the "Lower World" because it is fleeting. The stakes are high because death is permanent.
If death becomes reversible, the "game" loses its meaning. The tension of the Dungeon disappears. The gods might view a resurrection caster as a "glitch" in their favorite reality show that needs to be removed to maintain the authenticity of the experience.
The power of life and death is the ultimate political leverage.
If one Familia has a member who can resurrect others, every other Familia—and their patron gods—will react in one of two ways:
First, they will try to kidnap the caster to ensure their own Familia becomes immortal.
Second, if they can't have the power, they will ensure no one else does. A "Resurrectionist" would spark a worldwide Familia War.
I have a theory which There is a high chance that a soul that is pulled back from the path of reincarnation becomes "wrong" or "stained."
The gods might view the caster not as a healer, but as a creator of monsters. They might hunt the caster down under the guise of "preserving the purity of the cycle," fearing that resurrected beings are actually shadows or aberrations."
I finished as I looked at Riveria, who was stunned by my words.
"How do you know?"
"I mean, the gods are the one who controls the life and death, so if a mortal has that same ability, then it's clear."
For a minute, there was silence until Riveria asked me a question.
"What do you think about the gods in this world, and if you compare it to the gods in your world, how do you compare it?"
That's...an interesting question.
"To me, I feel my world is better than here." I said honestly
"How? You told me that your world is a dangerous place and even the gods there fight with mortals."
"True, but there are gods who help us to defeat those other gods."
"?"
"You see, in this world, the gods seal their divinity when they come down, making them weak and unable to do anything except for making an adventurer stronger, but still that's not enough against evilus who have another god but evil and will do anything for fun here."
I stopped making my words sink in her mind.
"While my world, the gods have their reason to be evil, like the radiance who lost her people because of my father making her angry...or jealous."
"My father, who is closer to a god."
"A higher being." Riveria said.
"Right, and despite being like that, he still wanted to help his people and use his power for them."
"By throwing his own children into the abyss and making them hollow." Riveria frowned as she started thinking about my father's actions.
"True, his actions weren't correct, but it still means that the man died with regret and agony because of what he did...and in the end, he made something he wanted, and at the same time, he regretted it."
"What do you mean? Didn't he create the perfect vessel, but got infected because of him?"
"Yeah, and that's why he regrets doing his plan because in the end, he's still a father."
"I see."
"Now talking about higher beings made me think about unn." I said gaining her attention.
"Who's that?"
"Well, before my father arrived to build Hallownest, Unn was one of the Higher Beings of the world—a massive, slug-like deity who dreamt the lush, vibrant jungles of Greenpath into existence.
Unn didn't just rule the area; she was the area. The moss, the vines, and the acidic pools were all born of her dream.
And from her own body and dreams, she birthed the Mosskin—the moss-covered creatures who worshipped her. They lived in a "Green Dream," a shared consciousness of growth and peace.
When my father arrived, he offered the creatures of the world "intelligence" and a "kingdom." This was a direct threat to Unn's influence.
While the spiders of Deepnest resisted and the bees of the Hive secluded themselves, Unn's power simply began to fade.
As the bugs of Greenpath accepted the Pale King's light, they began to drift away from the Green Dream. They stopped hearing Unn's call, and her influence shrank from a vast forest down to a single, acidic lake.
When the Infection broke out, it was devastating for Unn's children.
The Mosskin, being creatures of "dreams," were particularly vulnerable to the Radiance's orange plague.
Unn was too weak to protect them. She watched as her children turned into mindless, exploding husks of moss. To survive, Unn retreated deep beneath the surface of her lake, hiding in the shadows to avoid being consumed by the Radiance or the changing world.
When I found Unn, she didn't fight me. She is a massive, pulsing creature that rises briefly from the acid.
She sensed me as a "guest" and gave me the Shape of Unn charm.
This charm allows the wearer to transform into a slug-like shape while healing, a final gift of her fading power. It is a sign that she is still kind, even if she is forgotten.
The saddest part of Unn's story is that she is dying because she is being forgotten.
In my world, the gods' power is tied to their followers. As the Mosskin died or turned to the Radiance, Unn literally shrank in size and power.
She remains in her lake—a silent, disappearing god of a forest that no longer remembers her name." I finished my explanation, making her think about it.
"Did she say anything to you?" Riveria said, thinking there might be an interesting talk between us.
"Ah, no no no. She spat on me the charm and left." I said with a smile, and if someone saw, they would know it was forced.
"Hehe." Riveria laughed as she imagined the situation in her head.
"Really, I was hoping for a conversation with her, but no. She came and dppp at me." I was confused why she didn't talk in real life.
If she didn't talk in the game, then it's understandable because it makes the player think about her lore, but if you met her in real life and she did the same your gonna feel disrespect.
"Anyway, what's a charm you keep talking about?" Riveria asked as she removed the tear in the corner of her eye.
"Charms are mystical accessories that grant you special abilities and stat boosts. They are the primary way to customize your playstyle, allowing you to focus on sword combat, magic, or survivability.
But the Catch is While Overcharmed, you take double damage from all sources. It's a high-risk, high-reward mechanic often used for difficult fights."
Riveria nodded as I continued.
"There are 45 charms in total, falling into several categories:
Offensive.
Spell-Based.
Healing/Soul
Utility
Some charms have "hidden" interactions when equipped together. For example:
Stink & Spores: Equipping Defender's Crest and Spore Shroom turns your healing cloud into a toxic dung cloud that deals more damage.
Hatchlings: Equipping the Glowing Womb with Defender's Crest creates "exploding" dung hatchlings that seek out enemies.
The Slug Build: As we mentioned with Unn, using Shape of Unn with Quick Focus allows you to move significantly faster while in your little slug form, making you very hard to hit while healing.
Now, charms are often described as the "final wishes" or "essence" of powerful bugs that have passed away. By wearing them, you are essentially channeling the lingering will of those creatures. This is why many are found on corpses or given to you by ancient beings like Unn."
She nodded, feeling interested in it.
"Anyway, forget about that. What do I have to do for you to get him back?" I returned the Topic about Grimm.
"You have to do my work for a month." She said with a smile.
"That's it? Alright then, deal."
'This will be easy.'
