Chapter 147 - Chapter 147 — Julian Cross Admits She Saved Him Twice

Julian Cross didn't like talking about himself.

He deflected.

He joked.

He redirected attention with the ease of someone who'd lived under cameras for too long.

So when he asked for a moment alone with Aria, Daniel knew something was wrong.

Or important.

Possibly both.

No Cameras, No Script

They stood at the edge of the soundstage, lights dimmed, crew gone.

Just echoing space and cooling metal.

Julian leaned against a crate, hands in his pockets.

Aria waited.

She was good at that.

"…I owe you an explanation," he said finally.

She blinked.

"…For what?"

"For why I keep watching you like I'm checking for exits."

She considered.

"…That is observant."

He huffed a quiet laugh.

The First Time (The One Everyone Knows)

"The obvious one is the rig," Julian said.

"You saved me there."

She shook her head immediately.

"No."

He raised an eyebrow.

"You took control when everything failed.

You stabilized the chaos."

She met his gaze, calm but firm.

"I saved myself."

He smiled faintly.

"That's exactly what I mean."

She frowned.

"…I do not understand."

The Second Time (The One He Carries)

Julian exhaled slowly.

"The other time wasn't on camera."

She waited.

"Two years ago," he continued,

"I almost walked away from this industry."

Her eyes sharpened slightly.

"Why?"

"Because I froze."

The word tasted bitter.

"During a live-action shoot.

Nothing went wrong.

Nothing broke."

He laughed once, humorless.

"But my mind did."

Aria listened without interrupting.

A Moment That Changed Him

"There was a scene," Julian said quietly.

"Simple. Physical. No danger."

He shook his head.

"I hesitated."

The silence stretched.

"They cut.

Reset.

Everyone waited."

His jaw tightened.

"And I couldn't move."

He looked at her.

"I'd never frozen before."

Aria spoke softly.

"…That happens."

"Not to people like me," he replied.

She didn't argue.

Her Without Being There

"I watched the monitor while they adjusted," Julian said.

"And someone had left your old audition clip playing in the background."

Aria blinked.

"…Mine?"

"Yes."

He smiled slightly.

"You weren't famous yet.

You were just… doing the scene."

He mimed her posture unconsciously.

"No flourish.

No hesitation."

He swallowed.

"You reminded me that motion doesn't require permission."

The Decision

"I finished the scene," Julian said.

"Not perfectly.

But I finished."

He met her gaze.

"That day, you saved my career."

Silence.

Aria processed this carefully.

"…I was not present."

He nodded.

"You were enough anyway."

Why He Spoke Now

"I didn't say anything then," he admitted.

"It felt… inappropriate."

She tilted her head.

"…Why now?"

"Because the world thinks you're a miracle," he said.

"And I wanted you to know—"

He paused.

"—you were human to me first."

Aria's Answer

She thought for a long moment.

Then she said:

"…You finished the scene yourself."

He smiled.

"Yes."

"That matters."

He laughed softly.

"It does, doesn't it?"

She nodded.

"…I am glad."

The simplicity of it hit harder than praise.

The Unspoken Line

Julian studied her.

"You never try to inspire people."

She considered.

"…People find what they need."

He nodded.

"That's why you scare them."

She smiled faintly.

"…And you?"

He shrugged.

"You remind me to keep moving."

Closing Beat

They stood there for a moment longer.

No awkwardness.

No declarations.

Just two professionals acknowledging something real.

Julian finally stepped back.

"Thank you," he said.

She inclined her head slightly.

"You are welcome."

As he walked away, he felt lighter.

Not because he'd been saved—

But because he'd said it out loud.
