"Take a guess..." Ares said, amused.
"This is not funny! I won't be able to live with myself if anything happens to him because his blood will be on my hands. I'm not having that on my conscience, you hear me?" I pointed a finger.
But so suddenly he seized my wrist and yanked me close.
"Your mouth is getting sharper." He leaned to whisper in my ear. "Careful, babydoll..."
My heart raced for all the wrong reasons, and instead of fighting him off, I just relished the feel of his body against mine.
However, I summoned the courage, just enough to glare right at him.
"You two are like Tom and Jerry."
I jumped off his grip and kept a distance.
"Esme!"
Esme was sitting on the stairs, her palms pushing into her cheeks. "Mister King is Tom and Mommy's Jerry."
"Why do you think so, angel?"
I slapped Ares on the chest when he asked that question.
