The hall was silent, my reply loud enough. I felt a thousand eyes on me including the headmistress'. They were waiting for me, staring at me, probably they could see me shaking. Heavens, I was sweating so much. My fingers were cold and wet.
"What were you doing?" Erastus asked, with a brow raised, and I swallowed. I looked around me in the darkness, and spotted Faux looking at me with a completely casual look, although I was sure that deep inside him, he was begging me not to flop it.
My reply came out slowly, "Well, I was outside on the grounds, trying to practice the lessons I learned in my mortal combat class," I replied, and my heart roared at my lie. It felt like they would know that it was a lie.
But, damnnn, I was saved! Did someone help me break whatever enchantment he'd used to make me speak? Because I knew I was ready to say the truth until the last minute lie tumbled out.
