"Why don't they just go through the normal process? Even top scientists need to relax. They can't stay cooped up in a laboratory doing research all the time, can they? Isn't that suffocating?"
The Red Queen tilted her head and shook it. "It's not like that, Master. After entering the game, they didn't play like ordinary players. Instead… it seems they're conducting research inside the virtual world."
Xu Dan paused slightly. "Are these people so obsessed with research that they even run into a game to keep studying?"
"That's where it becomes strange."
Suddenly, something clicked in Xu Dan's mind. He sat upright.
"Wait. Time inside the game flows at three times the rate of the real world. That means doing research in there saves enormous real-world time. These people are complete workaholics! When I developed this game, I never expected this use case—I only thought about the players!"
"So what should we do?" the Red Queen asked.
"Do? Why intervene? They've essentially unlocked a triple-speed development plug-in. That's good for humanity. The faster human civilization progresses, the better it is for me."
As he spoke, a new idea suddenly formed in his mind.
Develop an entirely new virtual world.
If these scientists loved conducting long-term research inside a virtual environment because of the time differential—
Then give them time.
Give them even more time.
Creating independent space was not difficult. The virtual game Jedi had originally been modeled after Earth itself. Every element of Earth already existed within that virtual world.
If he wanted to open a new virtual space, he could simply duplicate Jedi.
In simple terms, create a second entrance in the game helmet—leading to a single-player version of Jedi.
Inside this new version, time could run three times faster. Four times. Five times. Even ten times.
Of course, the higher the multiplier, the higher the cost.
And no matter how expensive it became, state institutions would scramble to obtain it.
Because technology that would normally take ten years to develop could now be completed in one.
Just think about the changes around you over the span of ten years.
If the real world could progress that much in ten years, what would happen if the virtual world fed back into reality?
Scientists could spend one hundred years researching inside the virtual world—while only ten years passed outside.
If you compressed a century of development into reality—
Would you still be using the same ordinary computer on your desk? Would you still be holding a basic tablet in your hands?
"Fortunately, I'm a genius," Xu Dan muttered to himself. "If I hadn't learned the Time Gem control spell back then, creating a virtual world with a tenfold time ratio would've been nearly impossible."
The Red Queen tilted her head again. "Master, what are you talking about?"
"Oh, nothing. Right—what exactly are these top scientists working on?" Xu Dan asked.
He had no intention of invading anyone's privacy. He simply needed to understand what was happening inside his own virtual world—just in case something spiraled out of control.
The Red Queen paused briefly, then projected a virtual light screen.
"These countries are analyzing our Antarctic reactor. These ones are studying biological advancement. Cough. And these… are researching pharmaceuticals."
Xu Dan's gaze landed on a particular country displayed on the screen. His expression turned cold.
"I warned them privately before. I didn't expect them to still try to weaponize the reactor."
"Master, should we intervene?" the Red Queen asked.
Xu Dan shook his head.
"No. I want to see what they're capable of developing. I want to see what kind of junk they dare produce. When they finally succeed, I'll pay them a personal visit. I want to see how it ends for them."
The Red Queen laughed lightly.
"Master, this is like discovering your son making a mistake, waiting until he causes a disaster, and only then stepping in to criticize him."
Amused, Xu Dan rubbed the tip of his nose.
"So I'm an unreliable father now? Is that how you see me, Red Queen?"
"Master, I wouldn't dare."
"Your tone suggests otherwise."
After sharing a laugh, Xu Dan drove straight to Antarctic Biotechnology in Brooklyn.
The Time Gem was housed within the cube server. If he wanted to create an independent virtual research space, he needed to attempt a tenfold time adjustment first.
Time remained the most powerful force in existence.
Accelerate it—and the world could collapse within moments.
Slow it—and even death itself might be delayed.
It was astonishing.
He couldn't help wondering—
Could the Time Gem rewind the universe back to the moment of the Big Bang?
On the way, Xu Dan instructed, "Red Queen, copy the main framework of Jedi and upload it to our server."
"Yes, Master," her voice responded from within the sports car.
Upon arriving at Antarctic Biotechnology, Xu Dan headed upstairs without hesitation and walked toward Banner's laboratory.
After greeting the two tireless mage-guards at the entrance, he stepped inside.
It was hard not to feel ironic. Mordo, once a promising disciple, had been reduced to a doorman here—installed by the Ancient One. One could only imagine how many complaints he harbored.
But that was a matter for another time.
For now, Xu Dan needed to test the newly duplicated Jedi environment and determine whether it could sustain a tenfold time ratio.
When he had first learned the Infinity Stones control spell, the Ancient One had warned him: using an Infinity Stone was extremely dangerous—especially the Time Gem.
If mishandled, it could trap the user in temporal turbulence forever.
What that felt like, Xu Dan neither knew nor wished to find out.
Seeing Xu Dan enter, Banner immediately stepped away from the microscope and greeted him.
This was hardly the first time Xu Dan had found Banner peering through a microscope. The previous visit had been the same. It was unclear what Banner observed day after day.
Since the release of the virtual gaming helmet, Banner had also begun pursuing independent research projects within the virtual world. That was his freedom.
"Oh, Dan," Banner said with a smile, "you haven't been here in a long time."
