Chapter 138 - “Red Queen, check a place called Kamar-Taj for me.”

After logging out of the game, these were Xu Dan's first words.

"Master, found it."

"Good. Now filter the group using the wireless network."

"One target has been identified."

Originally, finding the Ancient One would not have been easy. However, the sorcerers had been somewhat careless and had installed Wi-Fi for themselves.

Wherever there was internet access, there were Xu Dan's eyes and ears.

Searching was naturally effortless.

This targeted search produced results almost instantly.

"Prepare the plane. I'll fly over tomorrow morning."

"Yes, Master," the Red Queen replied obediently, then added, "Master, good night."

Hearing this, Xu Dan smiled. This little Red Queen was becoming more and more human.

The next day.

The private jet followed its planned route and flew straight toward Kamar-Taj.

Holding an electronic map, Xu Dan arrived in this relatively chaotic area.

Coming here and actually meeting the Ancient One were two entirely different matters.

Thus, his plan was to head to the designated coordinates and quietly wait.

From what he remembered, the Ancient One rarely went out, but her disciple Mordo often appeared on this chaotic street.

After all, no matter how powerful a sorcerer might be, they were still human.

Finally, after waiting near the entrance for most of the day, Mordo appeared, seemingly having received some instruction. He walked straight over from the distance and smiled at Xu Dan.

"Sir, would you like to go inside?"

Xu Dan, who had been half-asleep, instantly came to his senses. He stood up at once, nodded, and said, "Yes. Could you take me in?"

"If you're ready, then you may enter," Mordo replied.

These sorcerers really did like to speak in riddles.

For the sake of his game-related plans, Xu Dan decided to play along. He put on a reverent expression and said, "I'm ready. Let's go."

Hearing this, Mordo generously pushed open the door.

In truth, whether Xu Dan was ready or not, Mordo would still have let him in. This was not Mordo's decision—it was the Ancient One's.

As the Supreme Sorcerer, the Ancient One knew far too much. Even Xu Dan's arrival had already been within her expectations.

Stepping through the flickering old wooden door felt like crossing into another world.

"It seems this sort of thing has been happening more and more lately," someone muttered.

Entering the ancient, attic-like structure, Xu Dan glanced around.

The place was not particularly archaic.

Compared to Sky Saber, which he had played, this was at most a modern building with an ancient aesthetic.

Several tables stood in the hall. At one, a bearded man was reading a book; at another, a bald man was making tea.

Xu Dan remembered that when he had first arrived here in the past, he had mistaken the bearded man for the Ancient One and the bald man for a servant, creating quite an embarrassing misunderstanding.

As Xu Dan looked on, the Ancient One suddenly handed him a cup of tea, its style reminiscent of modern Huaxia.

"Thank you, Master," Xu Dan said politely. After all, courtesy was essential if he was going to ask for help later.

The Ancient One was not surprised that Xu Dan recognized her at a glance. She merely smiled gently.

"I don't sense any confusion in you. Why did you come here?" she asked.

Xu Dan took a sip of the hot tea. A clear fragrance immediately filled his senses, and after swallowing it, he felt as though his entire spirit had been cleansed.

He looked at the teacup in surprise. Outside, he regularly drank teas worth hundreds of thousands, yet none compared to this single sip.

"If I say it's because the tea here is delicious, would you throw me out, Master?"

The Ancient One smiled and shook her head. "You're a very interesting person. No one here would dislike you."

"Then I'm relieved." With that, Xu Dan took a few more sips.

"You seem to enjoy the tea I make," the Ancient One said as she continued to pour him more, almost like a servant.

It had to be said—this truly was a place beyond the mundane world. Outside, so-called masters carried enormous airs, demanded appearance fees in the tens of millions, and acted as if inviting them was like summoning royalty.

Here, however, it was completely different.

From the moment he arrived, the Ancient One had personally attended to things, and now she was kindly pouring him tea. It made one feel no distance at all—only warmth and approachability.

"Of course I like it. If this tea were sold, I'd really like to buy some to take back."

"I can give you some," the Ancient One said with a smile. Having lived for centuries, she had long since seen through worldly matters like money.

After half a cup of tea, Xu Dan set it down. It was time to talk business—no, to get to the point.

The bearded man reading nearby noticed the situation and understood that he should excuse himself. Holding his worn book, he quietly left the room.

Only Xu Dan, the Ancient One, and Mordo remained.

"Master, I personally experienced something some time ago—in New Mexico, in the United States. I assume you sensed that surge of magical power as well?"

The Ancient One smiled kindly, then glanced at Mordo and said, "I know. But such things have happened far too many times in this world, and they continue to happen."

"You also believe another crisis is coming?"

Xu Dan was quite satisfied with her reaction. She was not the Supreme Sorcerer for nothing.

Without at least some prophetic awareness, she would never have held that title.

"The unknown is always on its way, isn't it?" the Ancient One said calmly. "However, the duty of we sorcerers lies elsewhere. You are already protecting the world, while we protect it from magic."

Magic?

Xu Dan lowered his head, gently swirling the teacup, and said casually, "Protection from the Dark Dimension as well?"

At these words, both Mordo and the Ancient One froze.

Some secrets were known only to sorcerers and were never meant to be revealed to outsiders.

And Xu Dan was, unquestionably, an outsider.

Although neither of them disliked this polite young man, knowing what one should not know could itself be an unspoken crime.

The Ancient One's expression shifted slightly, yet she still smiled.

"Yes. You know quite a lot."

"Master, do the sorcerers truly never concern themselves with other crises? Such as interstellar invasions—none of that?"

"Sir, the meaning of 'concern' can be interpreted in many ways," Mordo answered first.

He was correct. That word indeed carried multiple meanings.

Defeating an alien invasion head-on with an army could be considered intervention.

Likewise, remaining seated at home while one's sheer presence deterred hostile forces from acting could also be called intervention.

The Ancient One did the latter.

Her power was simply too great—she alone had already prevented countless disasters.
