Chapter 246: The Show Begins!
The Conspiracy
In a discreet coffee shop in Washington D.C., Eve, wearing dark sunglasses and a baseball cap and clearly disguised, walked to the innermost table. She ordered a coffee and sat down in a chair near the window.
A moment later, an elderly man with a large beard sat down across from her.
The man wore a gray coat and black-framed glasses, and a scar ran across his left cheek, giving him a fierce appearance.
Eve set down her coffee and whispered, "Director."
"Is everything settled?"
Eve nodded. "I've contacted Mrs. Nash. She should arrive at the hotel shortly."
"And Vanessa?"
"She knows nothing."
"And Luke Shaw?"
"He likely knows but hasn't said anything explicit."
Jack Harvey sneered. "It seems he doesn't oppose our methods."
Eve hesitated. "Isn't this a bit rushed? They've only known each other for two days."
"Two days is enough."
"But I'm still worried." Eve held her coffee, her expression visibly conflicted. "Vanessa is a good person. She shouldn't have to endure this. She..."
"Eve Cole!"
A low growl interrupted her. Eve raised her head in alarm. Seeing the cold, chilling glare in the old man's eyes, her body trembled. She quickly lowered her head.
"I apologize, I shouldn't have those thoughts."
Jack Harvey hissed, "Remember, everything we do is for the sake of the country. Are you willing to see a demon wearing a human's skin serve as the President of the United States? Have you considered what this world will become if Joel Nash succeeds?"
Eve fell silent, then nodded forcefully.
"I understand what needs to be done, Director. I won't disappoint you."
Just then, three black cars sped past the window. Jack Harvey glanced at the license plates and smiled strangely.
"The show has begun."
Caught in the Act
Vanessa was physically tired and wanted to sleep. Luke, maintaining his "good boyfriend" image, naturally stayed by her side. When an energetic young man and woman are entangled, physical contact is inevitable.
So, when the Secret Service agents burst into the room, this is the scene they were met with.
The President's daughter, her clothing disheveled, lay in the arms of a handsome young man, her face flushed as if smeared with rouge.
Ron Baker, the Secret Service team leader, cleared his throat loudly. The others immediately reacted, turning their heads away.
Luke stood up, his face grim, and shouted in anger,
"Who are you? Who gave you permission to enter? Get out, all of you!"
Vanessa recognized the Secret Service agents. She quickly pulled the bedsheets over her head, shrinking down like an ostrich.
"I won't repeat myself. Now, immediately, get out!"
Ron Baker remained silent, looking Luke up and down. He then stepped aside, and a dignified woman in a purple-red pantsuit walked in. The woman was well-preserved, seemingly in her early forties. Although there were crow's feet around her eyes, they did not diminish her youthful beauty. However, the expression on her face was utterly grim, as if she could devour someone.
The woman was none other than Kate Nash, Joel Nash's wife and the First Lady of the United States.
Luke paused for a moment, then slightly bowed his head.
"Hello, Madam."
Kate Nash fixed Luke with a pair of eyes as sharp as knives, then shifted her gaze to Vanessa, who was playing the ostrich. She took a sharp breath and yelled in a hoarse voice,
"You have three minutes! Get dressed and come out!"
With that, she turned and left the bedroom without looking back.
Ron Baker raised a hand. Two Secret Service bodyguards stepped forward to restrain Luke, but Luke flexed and broke free.
"I have my own legs; I don't need your help."
A flash of green light flickered in Luke's eyes. The agents recoiled in fear, as if encountering a terrifying beast.
"This kid has a powerful presence."
Ron Baker's expression immediately changed, his eyes filled with intense caution. He personally "escorted" Luke to the living room.
The First Lady's face was as dark and somber as the London sky. For her daughter, she had long planned a smooth path: she would graduate from Harvard, marry into the Kennedy family, and use the political influence of the two families to launch her into politics, becoming a representative female politician.
No accidents were permitted before that. But an accident had happened. The bodyguard meant to protect her daughter had somehow collapsed, and her daughter had disappeared, only to be found entangled with a man of unknown origin for two days in a hotel. If this news got out, what would the public think, and what kind of blow would it be to her husband's career?
Thinking of all this, Kate wished she could shoot this hateful Asian young man right there and then.
"Young man, what is your name?"
"Luke Shaw."
Luke replied indifferently, walking to the bar, pouring himself a glass of red wine, and slowly sipping it. His relaxed demeanor showed he didn't view the Secret Service agents in the room as a threat at all.
The agents frowned slightly, thinking the guy was too arrogant.
Luke Shaw!
Kate frowned, feeling she had heard the name somewhere. Then she remembered: Luke Shaw from Coast City, the founder of ShowMe. Her husband had mentioned him in a conversation with an assistant—a very powerful young man, the future heir of the Chinese triad, the Hongmen.
At this thought, Kate's expression shifted slightly.
"Which Luke Shaw?"
Luke took a sip of red wine and said calmly, "There is only one person in the world named Luke Shaw. There won't be a second one."
"I never thought you'd have heard my name, Madam. I'm honored."
While his words were humble, his eyebrow was raised high, showing extreme arrogance.
Kate's impression of him was already poor, and now it was utterly ruined. So young, with no manners whatsoever. Clearly from a low-class background.
"Why were you trying to get close to my daughter?"
"Madam, don't overthink this."
Luke put down his glass and said expressionlessly, "Before yesterday, I had no idea about her background."
"You think I'll believe that?"
"Whether you believe it or not, it's the truth."
A few Secret Service agents, unable to stand Luke's arrogance, proposed to their captain that they teach him a lesson. Ron Baker sternly shook his head. This young man was no ordinary character; a blind conflict could easily lead to unforeseen consequences.
Just then, Vanessa, now dressed, walked out of the room. She stood there anxiously, grasping her right hand with her left.
Luke stepped forward and whispered,
"Come on. I'll drive you back."
Vanessa glanced at her mother and nervously waved her hand. "No, no need."
"It's alright. Trust me."
His low, powerful voice seemed to carry a certain magic. The girl's tense mood slowly calmed down, and a smile returned to her face. Seeing this, Kate's blood boiled.
That cursed boy! Who does he think he is!
