Chapter 245: Schemes! Still Schemes!

Another Morning After

While eating at the French restaurant, Vanessa kept telling herself: After dinner, go straight home. Don't stop for a second. But faced with Luke's waves of sweet talk, she somehow agreed to the post-dinner stroll. As they walked, they ended up outside a bar. A few drinks later, and then...

The next morning, a naked Vanessa opened her eyes. When she felt the pressure from behind and a hand resting on her chest, she completely froze.

What am I doing! Vanessa Nash! What on earth are you doing? Why is this happening?

The girl covered her face, too ashamed to look at anyone. After knowing him for only one day, they had already checked into a hotel twice. What would Luke Shaw think? Would he consider her an easy woman?

God! This is terrible.

Not only was Vanessa baffled by her own actions, but even the highly experienced Eve was completely incredulous. When she learned her friend hadn't contacted her family but had spent another night with Luke, she immediately rushed to the hotel.

"You're insane! Your mother called me dozens of times asking where you were! The Secret Service almost dragged me away!"

"My lady, snap out of it! You are the President's daughter!"

Eve looked at her, exasperated. In her view, romance and a one-night stand were two different things. The former represented life; the latter was just a game for finding excitement and venting stress. One time was enough for such a game; there was no reason to continue repeatedly.

"You haven't actually fallen for him, have you?"

Vanessa glanced toward the bathroom. Recalling the events of the past two days, a blush crept across her cheeks.

"It's over. It's all over."

Seeing her expression, Eve immediately understood.

"What are you going to do next? Did he say he wants to date you?"

The girl mumbled, "We've only known each other for less than two days."

"This isn't about time; it's about..."

Just then, the bathroom door opened, and Luke emerged wrapped in a bath towel. Seeing Eve, he looked surprised.

"Your friend is here, and you didn't even call me."

"She just arrived."

"Give me a minute; I'll get dressed."

Luke dried his hair and headed to the dressing room. Eve stared intently at Luke's retreating figure. Only when the door closed did she look away, patting her rapidly beating chest. She murmured,

"This guy is so strange. His face is so young, but his body is incredible. Hey! How is he in bed? Was he satisfying?"

Vanessa looked mortified and snapped,

"Stop it! I don't want to discuss that topic with you."

Eve immediately understood. She gave her friend a strange look, scrutinizing her up and down. "No wonder you stayed out all night. You found a good one. Good things should be shared! How about the three of us? I don't mind assisting."

"Get out of here! If you say another crazy thing, I'm not talking to you anymore!"

Vanessa was genuinely angry. She knew her friend was sexually open, but she didn't expect her to be that open. Eve reluctantly waved her hands. "Alright, alright, I was just joking! Don't take it too seriously."

"But I have to warn you. Judging by his behavior these past two days, Luke Shaw is not the kind of pure, single-minded guy. If you want to be with him long-term, you have to be prepared."

Vanessa asked curiously, "Prepared for what?"

"Prepared to compete with others, of course. How could someone like him only have one girlfriend?"

At this, the smile on the girl's face instantly disappeared. She wasn't some naïve airhead. Although her emotional side told her not to worry, her rational mind raised many doubts.

Eve patted her shoulder, comforting her.

"Don't worry too much. Don't forget who you are. Your father is the President of the United States. If he dares to cheat, have your father sort him out and teach him a painful lesson. See if he dares to do it again."

Vanessa hesitated. "Is that really okay?"

"How many times have you dated? You don't know anything!"

Eve pouted and began to earnestly advise her from the perspective of an experienced woman.

"Listen up, you little rookie. Dating essentially comes down to three aspects: one, emotion; two, physicality; and three, lifestyle."

"If you can't hold onto any of the three, it means you're completely passive in the relationship and can be dumped at any time."

"To make a relationship last, you need to grab at least one."

Eve counted them off on her fingers. "The physical aspect isn't worth mentioning. Even though you have a good body, you're not a supermodel. With his wealth, is it hard for him to find a supermodel girlfriend?"

Vanessa frowned, about to speak, but Eve stopped her.

"Let me finish."

"Emotion takes time to cultivate. You've only known each other for a day. You don't even know each other's interests and hobbies. You have zero emotional connection. So, with emotion and physicality out, that leaves lifestyle."

Eve's voice grew more serious. "If you really want to be with him, you have to control the lifestyle aspect first, and then consider the others. If you can't even grasp lifestyle, just wait to be dumped. I've seen this too many times. To you, he's a long-awaited prince, but to a playboy like him, you're nothing more than a momentarily exciting fling. Believe me, in a few days, he'll forget all about you."

Vanessa was deeply affected by this speech. Part of her disagreed fiercely, but her rational mind told her it might be true. After a moment of thought, she whispered,

"Are you telling the truth?"

"Of course I am. Why would I lie to you? In short, you can't just passively wait; you have to take the initiative."

"But what should I do?"

"You still have to ask? Rely on your father, of course! Don't forget, he is the President of the United States, one of the most powerful people in the world. If he finds out his daughter was cheated on by some dirtbag..."

The rest of the words were unnecessary; those who had experienced it knew.

Vanessa struggled. "Won't that be inappropriate?"

Eve pulled Vanessa close and whispered something to her. Vanessa looked utterly hesitant.

"Will that really work?"

Eve patted her chest and said confidently,

"Don't worry. Just keep him occupied. Leave the rest to me."

With that, she turned and left the room.

A little while later, Luke, now dressed, walked out. He looked puzzled.

"Where's your friend?"

"She had a temporary emergency and left."

Perhaps due to the lie, Vanessa's expression was unnatural. "Um, I'm a bit tired and want to rest in bed for a while."

"No problem. I'll just wait here. We'll leave once you wake up."

Luke walked over to help her, seeming not to notice the unusual look on her face.

First Lady Mobilizes

At Blair House, the President's guest residence, the already anxious First Lady, Kate Nash, who was worried sick about her missing daughter, received a call from her daughter's best friend. Before the call even ended, her still-beautiful face was etched with fury.

Without a moment's hesitation, she called over Ron Baker, the head of the Secret Service detail, and, leading a group of Secret Service agents, they stormed out of Blair House.
