"Spandam!!"
"Damn it, these pirates are insane—they actually… they actually killed the CP9 chief!"
"This can't be real! The mission to escort Nico Robin—!"
Sandy, standing off to the side, grabbed Spandam's body and kicked him toward the Marines waiting to receive him, a look of pure disdain on his face.
Franky, facing the incoming Marines, cracked his fingers with excitement. "There's an escort ship on the other side of the bridge. Don't you think that's our escape ticket?"
A moment later, when no one responded, Franky blinked in confusion—because all the Marines were staring past him with shocked expressions.
Franky turned around to look.
Robin had already leapt into Sandy's arms… and the two were passionately kissing.
"…"
Franky stared, horrified.
Seeing the two making out like they were on a date instead of a battlefield, Franky yelled, "Hey!! You two bastards! No matter how much you love each other, this is NOT the time!"
Reminded of the situation, Sandy finally snapped out of it and waved casually. "Thanks, Franky."
"…" Franky glared. "This is NOT the time to be thanking me! Let's go steal the ship and run!"
Sandy laughed. "We're going, we're going—but let Robin eat something first. You want a beautiful woman going hungry like this?"
"Damn pirates!"
"Yeah! Not only did they kill the CP9 chief, they're even openly flirting right in front of us!"
"We can't let these criminals escape! Everyone prepare!"
"Hey, hey." Franky extended his left hand, the panel opening with a click. "Are you guys pretending I don't exist? Left-Hand Weapon—!"
BOOM—!
The Marines were blasted away.
Above the Drawbridge
On the high tower, Zoro and Sanji—having already defeated Kaku and Jabra—had regrouped. Usopp had also arrived.
"Nani?! Damn it, I'm so jealous of that bastard Sandy!" Usopp muttered angrily as he peered through a long-range scope.
Sanji grabbed the scope from him and looked.
His face instantly darkened. A second later, Sanji collapsed dramatically to the floor, his hand scraping the stone like his soul had left his body.
"Why… why didn't I go save Robin earlier?! If I had gone, Robin would be kissing me right now! Why—?!"
Zoro snatched the scope, glanced, then scoffed. "Don't kid yourself. Robin wouldn't fall for a perverted curly-brow like you."
"WHAT DID YOU SAY?!" Sanji exploded, springing to his feet as the two began fighting.
Usopp clutched his head. "I swear, you two pick the WORST times to fight! Robin's safe, so let's hurry and meet up with Luffy, Nami, and the others—then RUN!"
Underground Passage — Luffy vs. Lucci
In the massive stone chamber beneath the Gate of Justice, Luffy clashed violently with Rob Lucci.
To Luffy's shock, Lucci's endurance was absurd. He had eaten several of Luffy's Jet moves and looked nearly unharmed.
"Second Gear!"
Steam poured from Luffy's body as he crouched, pumping his blood faster.
Lucci narrowed his eyes.
"Shave!"
"Bastard!" Luffy snapped, and his body blurred into motion.
In an instant, countless afterimages filled the hall as the two vanished and reappeared around each other.
Luffy landed in a half-crouch, thrusting out his left arm.
"Jet Pistol!"
Bang!
Lucci took the hit to the shoulder but didn't fly back. Instead, he vanished and reappeared behind Luffy—only for Luffy to vanish and appear behind him.
"Jet Whip!"
The kick connected cleanly, sending Lucci crashing across the floor.
Both were panting.
Luffy—because he'd never pushed Second Gear this long.
Lucci—because no matter how much he attacked Luffy, the rubber man refused to fall.
"Shave!"
Lucci attacked first.
"Finger Pistol: Yellow Lotus!"
Dozens of high-speed thrusts shot toward Luffy.
But Luffy suddenly disappeared.
Lucci's eyes widened—Luffy had jumped high behind him.
"Jet Stamp!"
Lucci leapt aside, crashing into a stack of wooden crates.
He kicked the debris away and stared at Luffy with a predator's interest.
Their fists collided again—BOOM!—sending both flying back.
"Razor!"
Lucci zigzagged toward Luffy with geometric precision.
Luffy twisted in midair, using the acceleration of Second Gear to slip past Lucci's attack and smash a punch into his chest.
Both slid backward.
They paused, crouched low, staring intensely.
Luffy's steam faded—Second Gear had worn off.
Lucci stood tall. "So that's what it is. A stimulant. You pump your legs like bellows to accelerate your blood flow. Pressure that would make a normal human heart explode."
His eyes sharpened.
"But your organs are rubber. You can take it. A technique only a rubber man can use."
He smirked.
"But it drains your stamina. It shortens your lifespan. A foolish move."
Luffy grinned. "Maybe. But losing the friend in front of me is worse. If Sandy came here, he could beat you. But I'm the Captain. I have to defeat you. I'll do whatever it takes!"
Lucci's expression shifted. "You expect too much. That explosion earlier—probably a test fire from a Navy warship. In minutes, the Buster Call will begin. You and your friends will die in the Tower of Justice."
Luffy shook his head. "No. My friends will live. And as for you—I'll beat you!"
"Oh?" Lucci's killing intent surged. "Show me, then."
"Shave."
"Gomu Gomu no… Rocket Launcher!"
The two clashed again, fists and speed filling the chamber with shockwaves.
