Chapter 224: Wizard Legends Showdown
"Now it's my turn."
George drew a card and glanced at his hand before scratching his head in annoyance.
"I don't have enough mana for any of these cards. End turn."
Even so, he clearly had no intention of sitting quietly.
He continuously spammed Hufflepuff's greeting emote.
"Would you like a butter pie?"
"Would you like a butter pie?"
"Would you like a butter pie?"
Eventually, the emote triggered a cooldown, and the icon turned gray.
"To prevent people from harassing their opponents with emotes," George explained with a shrug, "we added a few restrictions."
Fred drew another card.
"I don't have anything I can play either, so I'll use Gryffindor's hero ability—Valor."
Two mana crystals vanished instantly.
A faint crimson glow wrapped around Gryffindor's body, while a shield icon marked with the number two appeared beside his health bar.
"Gryffindor's ability consumes two mana crystals to grant two points of armor."
"Now then… clumsy knight, attack!"
The knight charged forward with his spear lowered, rushing straight toward Helga Hufflepuff.
With a muffled grunt, her health dropped by one point.
"That covers the basic mechanics," Fred continued. "As for everything else, you can either watch the rest of the demonstration… or figure it out yourselves."
After saying that, he stopped explaining and focused entirely on the match.
"Oho! Look what I just drew!"
Fred held up a card dramatically.
Niffler
5 Mana — 3/3
Battlecry: Steal one mana crystal from your opponent.
"Watch carefully, kids!"
A Niffler the size of a rubber duck suddenly crawled out of the card and scampered across the board, snatching away one of George's mana crystals before disappearing.
"This," George declared with exaggerated seriousness, "is the power of Hufflepuff!"
"End turn."
Fred's Gryffindor deck immediately responded in a burst of sparks.
A card called Battle Banner Charge (5 Mana) automatically leapt into his fingertips.
"And we," Fred announced grandly, "are artists of the battlefield!"
As he threw down the card, the three tiny 1/1 lion cub dolls riding broomsticks on his field suddenly expanded into 2/2 units and charged toward George's defenses.
But before they could strike, thick Devil's Snare vines burst from the ground and wrapped them into tightly bound bundles.
The watching students gasped in amazement.
Then Fred activated Courage—a unique Gryffindor mechanic that had accumulated two stacks.
When enhanced by Courage, his next summoned follower became stronger.
But at that exact moment, George's field creature, a Mimbulus Mimbletonia (1 Mana, 0/3), suddenly swelled into a gigantic carnivorous plant.
The monstrous flower swallowed Fred's newly summoned Ironclad Knight (3 Mana, originally 2/4, boosted to 3/5), chewed loudly for a moment, then spat him back out.
The knight emerged drenched in sticky green slime, his stats reduced to a pitiful 1/1.
"So this is our unique ecological suppression strategy!" George declared smugly, wiggling fingers stained green by plant slime.
As for Courage, it was Gryffindor's signature mechanic.
Whenever Gryffindor took damage, it gained an equal amount of Courage points.
Certain cards required Courage to play, while others consumed Courage to strengthen the next summoned follower.
"Now pay attention to this yellow light!" George suddenly shouted.
George deliberately slowed his movements, carefully placing three Magic Pumpkins (1 Mana, 0/1) along the edge of the battlefield.
Every time he summoned a Plant-type unit, the ingredient counter floating above his deck ticked upward.
"Each Plant you summon is converted into ingredients—and now I've finally gathered five!"
With dramatic flair, he slammed down a spell card depicting a lavish feast.
Hufflepuff Banquet (7 Mana Spell).
The pumpkins instantly exploded into golden dust, reforming midair into three sturdy 3/3 Pumpkin Guards.
But that wasn't the best part.
Every time those guards attacked, they dropped collectible Honeydukes candies onto the battlefield, each one capable of restoring one health point to a hero.
Fred's freshly deployed warhorse hadn't even had time to rear before it slipped on the rolling candy and crashed onto its back.
"You Gryffindors only know how to charge in blindly," George drawled smugly as he revealed the core legendary card of his deck:
Newt Scamander.
"While we," he announced proudly, "raise pets!"
The moment the 7 Mana 7/7 Newt entered play, the entire battlefield transformed into the interior of a magical creatures suitcase.
Two Diricawls (1 Mana, 1/1 — Deathrattle: Deal 2 damage to a random enemy) fluttered out from ripples in the card art itself.
The match quickly entered its climax.
Glowing ingredient particles suddenly began floating all around George's deck.
Then, sacrificing every ingredient he had accumulated, he summoned the Hogwarts Kitchen Giant (8 Mana, 6/6).
The towering stone giant wore a chef's hat, and every attack it made hurled gigantic meat pies that restored three health.
Fred refused to back down.
He immediately activated Rallying Order—a 10 Mana spell that could only be used while below fifteen health.
All friendly units that had died earlier in the match returned to the battlefield at random.
"That's completely unfair!"
Fred nearly shouted as the carefully constructed advantage he had built was instantly overturned.
George had summoned two Taunt followers, preventing Fred's remaining troops from attacking anything else.
Then, on the following turn, George failed to draw any removal cards capable of dealing with Fred's defensive line.
In the end, he could only watch helplessly as the game slipped away from him.
Although the match itself had not lasted long, the dazzling visual effects and gorgeous animated cards had already left a deep impression on every student watching.
The students who already possessed decks immediately began excitedly examining their cards in detail.
As for those without cards, they instantly erupted into loud questions.
"How much does this cost?!"
The loudest voice among them belonged to Draco Malfoy.
Having lost to Ron Weasley earlier, he had missed out on winning a deck himself, and the frustration still burned fiercely inside him.
He wanted one badly.
"Not expensive," George replied cheerfully. "A starter deck costs even less than a Wizard's Chess set."
"Of course, the cards in starter decks are fixed—only thirty cards total. If you want more cards, you'll need to buy booster packs from the Dark Moon Circus."
"Five Knuts per pack. Each pack contains five random cards."
"You might get five useless commons…"
"Or five legendary cards—like Newt just now."
"Give me a Slytherin starter deck," Draco declared loudly.
Then he immediately changed his mind.
"No. Give me all four starter decks."
Money, after all, was the one thing the Malfoy family never lacked.
The moment Draco finally got his hands on the decks he had been obsessing over, he immediately sought out Ron.
"Weasley," he called coldly as he walked straight over, "how about another match?"
"No extra cards. Just starter decks."
"You dare?"
Ron had already finished reading through the Gryffindor deck list, and after watching Fred defeat George earlier, his confidence had skyrocketed.
"As if I'd be scared of you."
"Then let's settle this properly."
Draco's wand traced a glowing green arc across the edges of his cards.
At once, eerie green mist unique to the Slytherin deck spread across half the battlefield.
"Weasley," he sneered, "ready to lose again?"
With a sharp motion, he slammed down Basilisk Hatchery (3 Mana).
The battlefield transformed into a murky swamp as enormous slime-covered eggs rose from the earth, pulsing rhythmically like beating hearts.
The instant Ron's Charging Knight (2 Mana, 2/1) entered the battlefield, the foremost serpent egg burst open.
Three 1/1 venomous hatchlings lunged forward in a spray of corrosive slime, swarming the knight and melting the lion-emblazoned crimson banner into a smoking black ruin.
