Chapter 78 - Chapter 77: Your King Is Not Me

Since the old man wanted to play defense behind an iron wall, that made things easier.

Leo grinned. Fine then — if Magneto wants to be a turtle, I'll roast him like one.

He flicked open a lighter, and with a whoosh, a blazing fire dragon erupted, crashing into the steel fortress.

Boom!

The fire dragon coiled around the metal wall like a sea dragon rising from the depths — and that was only the beginning.

One fire dragon after another burst from the lighter, each one fiercer than the last.

One, two, three… ten!

Leo didn't even break a sweat. His stamina was practically limitless — why stop now?

Still, he clicked his tongue in annoyance.

The flames weren't hot enough. Ordinary fire wasn't satisfying.

But quantity can make up for quality.

The growing inferno wrapped around the steel shell, heating it from all directions until even Magneto couldn't take it anymore.

Metal conducts heat too well.

Within moments, Magneto's face was drenched in sweat, his robe steaming, and the air around him shimmering from the heat.

Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!

Finally, he couldn't endure it any longer.

He ripped open the molten wall and stumbled out, looking utterly miserable.

His dark red battle robe was soaked, his hair plastered to his face, and even his iconic helmet was dripping.

He looked like a boiled lobster.

Gasping for air, Magneto bent over, panting like a fish tossed back into a puddle after drying out on the shore.

"Heh… heh… young man, you've got something."

He glared at Leo — a mix of fear, respect, and reluctant admiration flashing in his eyes.

That look said everything.

This kid… he's the future of the Mutants.

If Leo was willing to lead them, Magneto and Charles would gladly step aside.

He could become the King of Mutants — their savior.

Leo couldn't read Magneto's mind, but he didn't need to.

The old man's eyes gave it away — expectation, hope, and the dream of a brighter Mutant future.

And honestly, Magneto wasn't wrong.

Nature itself was built on elimination. The strong survived. The weak vanished.

Just as Homo sapiens once replaced Neanderthals — history repeats itself.

Leo met Magneto's gaze and said calmly,

"Erik, your goal will eventually be achieved. But the person leading that future… doesn't have to be me. It might be Wanda. Or Charles's son — Legion. Or even Jean Grey."

"This isn't a movie world. You don't need the audience's approval, or a country's recognition. Humanity won't just sit back and watch Mutants perish."

Magneto froze. The words struck him like thunder.

Charles has… a son?

That stubborn old man actually had a son?! Impossible!

(Note: In this story, Wanda and Quicksilver aren't Magneto's children — following their original settings.)

"Are you… sure?" Magneto asked, his voice trembling.

"Of course," Leo said, his expression calm. "It's the future."

Magneto stared for a moment, then burst into wild laughter.

"Hahaha! Hahaha! Good! Then Mutants are saved!"

Even if he were to die today, he'd die content — because there was hope for their kind.

He chose to believe Leo.

This young man had shown too many unbelievable abilities.

Maybe foresight was one of them. And he had no reason to lie.

"So, are we still fighting?" Leo asked with a teasing smile.

"No, no more fighting," Magneto waved his hands. "I admit defeat."

"Good. Then here's my suggestion — talk to Charles and the X-Men. There'll be bigger crises ahead. It's better if you all cooperate."

Leo's tone was light, but serious.

Mutants fighting separately was a waste of potential.

Unity meant power — and he couldn't let his "fishpond" drain dry.

If the Mutants died out, he'd lose too many potential abilities to harvest.

"What kind of crises?" Magneto asked sharply.

"Alien invasion," Leo said casually. "And genetically modified food."

"Alien invasion… I understand that," Magneto muttered. "But genetically modified food?"

His eyes widened in horror as Leo explained, "The government began mass-producing GMO food. As a result, no new Mutants have appeared for years. One generation after another — fewer and fewer Mutants, slowly boiling the frog alive."

"This is extermination," Magneto said darkly, his voice shaking with rage.

"I'll discuss this with Charles immediately. It concerns all of us — I can't decide alone."

He looked at Leo and nodded deeply.

"Thank you. Truly. If not for you, we might never have seen this coming."

"No need," Leo replied with a small smile.

"I'm tied to your kind's fate. I won't let you vanish that easily."

Inwardly, he grinned.

You're all my fishpond — the more Mutants, the more powers for me. No way I'm letting you die out.

Magneto didn't stay another second. He shook Leo's hand firmly, then called out to Quicksilver.

"Let's go."

And with a blur of silver light, they were gone.

Leo watched them disappear into the distance, his grin widening.

"Double happiness today," he chuckled. "Didn't expect to get a legendary ability so fast."

The ability Magneto possessed — Magnetic Field Control — was one of the most iconic powers in comic history.

Now it was his turn to wield it.

"[System, extract it.]" Leo said impatiently.

[Detected: Magneto (Erik). Would you like to extract an ability or an item? This extraction costs one million points.]

"Extract."

[Deducting one million points. Extraction in progress.]

[Extraction complete. Congratulations, host — you've obtained Magneto's telepathy-resistant helmet.]

Leo choked and spat out blood.

"You've gotta be kidding me! One million points — for this useless tin can?!"

He gritted his teeth. "Continue!"

[Forced extraction will cost double.]

"Do it!"

[Deducting two million points. Extraction in progress…]

[Extraction complete. Congratulations, host — you've obtained Magnetic Field Control. Would you like to integrate it?]

"Integrate it," Leo said through clenched teeth.

Two million gone — but worth every damn point.
