Chapter 1040 - Chapter 985: Taking the Field Personally

"How did you know that woman was a fake? Are you very familiar with her?"

Compared to teleportation, flying is still not a fast means of transportation. Su Ming had to accommodate Magnetic King's speed; he didn't want to expose the situation over in Asgard.

So during the flight, maybe Magnetic King wanted to get closer, and proactively chatted with Deathstroke, choosing to inquire about the previous mystery.

Su Ming naturally wanted to get closer too, so he just chuckled and explained simply.

"Not familiar, but the answer is sand."

"Sand?"

"Previously, the real Captain America and the female special agent were trapped underwater, and I, along with another person, managed to teleport them to the Sahara Desert to rescue them. Captain America was fine, with short hair, so I could understand that he washed off the sand completely while changing clothes and showering at the White House. But Agent Carter? Anyone who's been to the beach knows, with her long hair, it's impossible to wash every grain of sand out within a few minutes."

"Hmm, so you purposely got that close just to observe the hair?" Magnetic King crossed his arms, choosing the position with the highest wind resistance, standing straight while flying.

Su Ming patted his own armor, black tentacles emerged from his shoulder like streaming water, swaying like seaweed as he greeted Magnetic King:

"You've met my pet too; it's perfect for handling micro-level matters. I just distracted that man's attention. Also, I stepped on his foot before, his foot was always arched inside the boot, squeezing a size 41 foot into size 37 shoes, must've been tough for him."

Magnetic King did not show much reaction; he knew quite a few mutants with transformation ability, cross-dressing is just child's play.

But he had other thoughts, contemplating forming a team with comprehensive abilities.

Today he was coerced by Deathstroke, mainly due to outdated information. For achieving his ideals in the future, he would undoubtedly need more help.

Diversified abilities are necessary to cope with diverse battlefields in the future, and relying only on brute force without information would still lead to extortion by Deathstroke.

Today, Magnetic King finally realized the weakness of individual strength, planning to establish a small organization to unite the oppressed mutants, making everyone help each other like brothers and sisters.

No trade, no conditions, no harm.

Watching Magnetic King obviously spaced out, Su Ming irritably patted him: "We've arrived; same as usual, you handle the army, I handle the leader."

"Hmph, don't need you to say."

After speaking, Magnetic King dove down, heading toward the densest fire spot, gathering a mass of steel spikes.

Seeing him so proactive, Su Ming sighed helplessly, landing in an unoccupied area to complain:

"Such a tsundere, acting like he's unwilling to join forces with me, yet he's quicker in action than anyone else? If only Monac were this enthusiastic and dark."

Far away in Kama Taiji, the Magic Prince twitched in his sleep, furrowed his brow, and kicked away the blanket.

San Francisco, this beautiful city is now reddened by the flames of war, the Golden Gate Bridge is jammed with burning vehicles, appearing like a line of fire over the sea.

"Heimdall!" Su Ming immediately called for the handy tool, no need for teleportation service this time; surveillance is needed: "Tell me the enemy leader's location!"

But this time, the response wasn't from Heimdall; instead, a crow flew in from who knows where, landing on Su Ming's shoulder.

Its red eyes resembled gemstones, emitting an eerie light at night, tilting its head to scrutinize the mercenary.

Strangulation manifested its toothy maw like a trap on the bird's landing spot but retreated inside when stopped by the host.

"Ah, it's His Majesty Odin, awake now?" Su Ming asked in a close tone.

This crow was indeed a wireless telephone from this era, able to transmit Odin's voice into Su Ming's ear, speaking in a standard London accent: "In such a short time, you've used the Rainbow Bridge multiple times; thinking about the burden on the World Tree, how could I sleep well?"

"I merely helped the World Tree exercise its body and energy utilization, no need to thank me, it's all I should do." Su Ming smiled, waving his hand as if it wasn't noteworthy, full of modesty.

The crow opened its mouth, but no sound came from the black beak; after a long pause, it spoke again: "So, what trick are you planning this time? I don't believe you're aiming to save this country."

"Looks like even the omniscient Divine King doesn't know everything; the cycle is approaching, haven't you seen what this realm means to you, to Asgard?" Su Ming leaped onto a nearby house, switching to a higher position.

Maybe the signal will be stronger here? The crow's silent mouthing earlier must've been due to bad reception.

"Are you certain, did the Time Gem show you this? It's best not to shake the foundation of our cooperation lightly." Odin confirmed again.

"I'm sure, Twilight of the Gods doesn't necessarily have to consume our world's gods... heh, my negotiation with Those Who Sit Above in Shadow relied on this, winning time for Asgard; do you know what this means? It means some things only I can do."

Su Ming and Odin's dialogue was very cryptic; even if someone overheard, they wouldn't understand the exchange.

But time will prove everything.

"Alright then, don't torment Heimdall, he isn't accustomed to your manic and dark methods, let me guide you instead." The crow emitted Odin's voice once more.

Su Ming would never back down verbally, immediately retorted: "Speaking of mania, how is your son Thor lately? Has Berserker's blood driven him to foolishness again, share some amusing tales to cheer me up?"

Counting on Thor to be honest is impossible; anytime Thor and Loki are mentioned, Odin falls silent. If Hel and Balder were brought up further, he'd probably be infuriated.

Sure enough, thinking of the recent ludicrous escapades by Thor and Loki, Odin couldn't help a headache, and perhaps sensing the Divine King's emotion, the crow hunched its little head dejectedly.

Originally, after the stunt in the Immortal Palace where Deathstroke realized he'd been tricked, Thor and Loki kept a low profile for a while.

But years later, old habits returned, Loki egged Thor into challenging the strongest Warrior of the Ice Giants at Jotunheim, and if he won, Loki promised to clean the goat pen for a month.

Thor's ride is a small chariot pulled by two goats; generally, he finds driving a war chariot bothersome, preferring just to fly with his hammer.

So his goats, like Odin's eight-legged horse, live a life of drunken dream-like bliss, with dedicated caregivers maintaining the pen, even cleaner than typical kitchens.

But betting is a different matter; Thor can't resist provocations, so when Loki proposed a bet, he got excited.

The two sneaked into Jotunheim through a secret path, found the Ice Giant Warrior, and during the direct confrontation, Thor surprisingly wasn't an opponent, nearly got beheaded.

Loki quickly ambushed the giant from behind, chopped off one of the giant's hands, and fled with Thor.

Thor casually took away the Ice Giant's weapon, a treasure sword, which Zemo used as one of the bargaining chips in his previous negotiations with the Ice Giant tribe.

Ordinary Ice Giants lacked weapons, resorting to pillars or fists, so a good sword was a true treasure to them.

The two Aesir Race members, wandering with a treasure sword in the icy realm, were 'warmly' welcomed like a carnival by all Ice Giants, eager to kill them and seize the sword.

Eventually, even the Giant King Laufey was alarmed; Odin personally intervened to rescue the two troublemakers.

Peace was hard-won and couldn't be disrupted over trivial matters like these, despite knowing Laufey's schemes, Asgard still offered some reparations to make the Ice Giants sound the retreat.

Odin punished the troublemakers harshly with house arrest, but days later, two of the three Mothers of Gods suddenly died, leaving only Frigga alive; incidentally, it was due to accidents, adding to Odin's woes.

In the end, he had to resort to sleep, escaping to dreams where he had it all.

However, just a few years later, Deathstroke started causing trouble again, and Odin felt overwhelmed, knowing well that the glory of the Lord of Nine Realms demanded a corresponding price; yet since Deathstroke appeared, why does this price keep rising?
