Cold tea, with the leaves left in too long, so that it tasted of the pot more than the tea. Lanhua drank it anyway. It had come up at first light and been forgotten on the sill, and it seemed a poor way to treat a thing somebody had carried up a stair for her.
The waystation at Corran had six rooms over the taproom, and she had the end one, with the window onto the Kaelport road. From it you could see the road go east between the wet fields to the first rise, and beyond the rise nothing, and she had been looking at the nothing since the light came.
Noon of the second day. That was what had been agreed in the barn. One of them would walk back up the road and stand in the barn door and say done, or say later, and either would do, because either meant there was still a road between Kaelport and here with somebody on it.
