The cold came off them first.
They came out of nothing onto the stone floor of the Medical Bay all at once, as Isha always brought people home: Amaya on her side with the Commander's hand still on her and Isha's over it, the frost of the Kaelport yard still on all three of them. Eden was on her knees before they had finished arriving.
She saw the iron next. Pale, paler than iron ought to be, shut round the cat's foreleg above the paw and shining from the inside, white-gold. Above it the black under the gray-silver had gone dead and dull to the elbow and past it, and the dead place was moving. She could watch it move.
