Chapter 21 - Chapter One (Part Two): The First Step Into the Light

The stadium lights of the Etihad blazed like stars, the air buzzing with anticipation.Tonight wasn't just another match — it was Khali's first chance to play with the Elite Manchester City Team.

He sat on the bench, heart pounding beneath his training jacket, watching legends move across the pitch like poetry in motion.Haaland. Foden. Bernardo. And in the center of it all… Kevin De Bruyne, the master of midfield.

Khali whispered to himself:From Zangola… to here.

Coach Guardiola paced briefly, then turned toward Khali. His hand lifted."Khali. Warm up."

Khali shot to his feet. "Yes, coach!"

His legs trembled as he jogged to the sideline.Fans noticed, whispering, pointing —"That's the kid from Nigeria.""The Zangola Boy!"

Every heartbeat felt like a drum.Every breath, a prayer.

The Call

At the 70th minute, the fourth official lifted the substitution board.Number 17 off…Number 36 on…

DE BRUYNE ⬅️ KHALI ⬆️

The stadium erupted.

De Bruyne smiled as he walked off and placed a hand on Khali's shoulder."Make them remember your name," he whispered.

Khali stepped onto the pitch. The grass felt softer, the noise louder, the world bigger. But inside, he was calm. This was the field he had imagined since he was a boy.

A Touch of Magic

City led 1–0, but Brentford pressed hard.Khali positioned himself where De Bruyne always shined — the heart and brain of the team.

The ball came to him.His first touch — clean. His second — a sharp turn that sent a defender the wrong way.

Fans gasped.Commentators shouted:

"Confidence from the youngster!"

Minutes later, Haaland sprinted toward the box. Khali spotted him and launched a perfect lofted through ball, sailing between two defenders.

Haaland caught it, shot —GOAL! 2–0!

The stadium exploded with noise.Fans screamed his name:"KHAAAAA-LI! KHAAAAA-LI!"

Bello, watching from Old Trafford that night, clenched his fist and whispered proudly,That's my brother.

Making a Statement

In the final minute, Khali dribbled smoothly past a defender and earned a free kick near the left corner of the box.The crowd chanted for him to take it.

He stepped up, heart steady — just like those dusty evenings in Zangola. He struck the ball with a swift curl —It grazed the bar and dipped —GOAL!!!

The referee pointed to the center circle.3–0.Khali's debut.Khali's goal.Khali's moment.

His teammates mobbed him in celebration.Guardiola smiled from the sideline — a proud, knowing smile.

A New Kind of Spotlight

After the match, reporters crowded around him."Khali! How does it feel scoring in your debut?""What did De Bruyne say to you?""Is it true the national team wants you for the senior squad?"

But Khali's eyes searched the crowd —and there she was.

AmiraSmiling… proud… recording every second.

He walked up to her, breathless from joy."You were here?"

She nodded. "I wouldn't miss history."

Khali chuckled softly."I'm just getting started."

Amira's eyes glimmered."I know."

As the cameras flashed, and the sky above Manchester glowed bright with celebration…Khali felt something stronger than fame, louder than applause:

He belonged.
